Hi! My pseudonym name is Natsuki Marx. I am, unfortunately, stuck on United Kingdom TERF island Flag of England.svg, with seemingly no way of escaping to Netherlands the Netherlands or New Zealand New Zealand any time soon.

Politics stuff[edit]

My political journey[edit]

I wasn't always as progressive as I am now. Back in 2016, I was heavily radicalised into being pretty right-wing. I would've been 11, and I would've discovered Buzzfeed response videos by YouTubers like No Bullshit, Just a Robot, Dr. Shaym, etc. These videos would be the starting-point of my political ideology. Back then, it would have been primarily anti-feminism; y'know, 'feminists hate men', 'there is no wage gap', 'feminists think all these non-issues are issues'... you get the drift. All the cringy anti-SJW stuff you can imagine an 11-year-old could be convinced of.

Things escalated quickly, however. Those YouTubers that I was subscribed to started expressing more and more political beliefs. they started producing very anti-Hillary Clinton videos, and very pro-Donald Trump videos. I would've discovered Steven Crowder and Ben Shapiro at this time. They—Steven Crowder especially—pushed me way further right. This would be transphobia, climate change-denial, 'cultural Marxists/leftists want to take away all your freedoms' etc., etc. I continued watching far-right content on YouTube for 4 years.

Early-2020, I discovered Vaush. I was searching for Ben Shapiro's political compass video, as I wanted to rewatch it. Underneath the cretin's video was a video of Vaush reacting to said political compass video. I clicked it out of curiosity, and I was intrigued all-throughout by the arguments that to me sounded very logically sound, but were in opposition to things I previously believed. I went to Vaush's channel and I proceeded to watch basically all of his videos. He would continue to live-stream on YouTube regularly and I would watch all of them in full. He completely deconstructed every preconceived belief I was fed from my radicalisation, and upmost and utterly de-radicalised me. He then, of course, radicalised me to the left instead. I'm pretty left-wing now, but unlike when I was far right, I can now actually defend every single one of my positions. I believe all of my currently-held beliefs are fully reasonable, and I now have fully fleshed-out foundational, fundamental axioms. I am in an infinitely better place now than I would be if I hadn't been de-radicalised when I was. I can only wish it had happened sooner.

This right-wing spiral I went down was very bad for my health. I didn't have any real way of dealing with dysphoria. I simply left it unfiltered in my brain. While I have felt gender dysphoria since a very young age—probably about 5—It only exacerbated during puberty. Not transitioning throughout those tween years has most certainly had a massive negative impact on my life. I really do believe the absolute majority of my mental problems I've suffered through up to now have been caused by the radicalisation I went through on YouTube.

Fundamentally...[edit]

I'm a consequentialist. An act utilitarian, if you will. I care very fundamentally about beings' experience; what they can think and feel. It seems like harm, whether that be physical or mental, produces heavy negative feelings in the minds of beings with an experience. I know what negative emotions feel like, and I dislike feeling them. From this, I feel very strongly that I'd like to minimise that harm as much as possible, and instead maximise the amount of positive feelings beings with experience feel, since I also know these emotions to be ones I enjoy.

I don't believe moral facts—an objective morality—exists, or, if they do, then they're certainly not perceivable to us. Policy-wise, all our decisions should be made purely to maximise the happiness of beings with experiences. Obviously I am biased towards humans, but I also care about other species too, them having experiences, after all. I do still prioritise humans though.

Keep in mind, my axioms revolve around maximising one's experience, not around whether something is alive or not. I do not necessarily care about damage committed against plants, or prokaryote, or bacteria, or whatever, unless the outcomes of that damage subsequentially cause harm to beings with experience.

My RationalWiki achievements[edit]

Natsuki's leftist content creator recommendations:[edit]

Natsuki's Substack recommendations[edit]

  • AI Snake Oil – A newsletter about A.I. and its developments that actually isn't run by cranks.
  • Beccacore – Completely non-political fashion and aesthetics newsletter. Learn to dress stylish!
  • Erin In The Morning – Gee, that capitalisation of "In" and "The" annoys me! Erin very regularly posts updates about the situation regarding transgender people in the U.S.. Every month, she's been posting the "Anti-Trans Legislative Risk Map", where she breaks down all fifty states (and Washington, D.C.)'s legal situation regarding trans people and their rights to healthcare, or to exist at all. Don't worry, each "ATLRM" always has a list of safe states with protective measures in place.
  • Experimental History – Psychologist Adam Mastroianni's newsletter in which he writes about psychology, as well as tons of stuff relating to general scientific methodology.
  • Friendly Athiest – Hemant Mehta writes near-daily about happenings related to religion and all its dastardly deeds in the U.S. of A..
  • Internal Tech Emails – Internal Tech Emails showcases internal tech industry emails that surface in public records. A lot of these emails/text conversations are pretty interesting. They post semi-regularly.
  • Ken Klippenstein – Ken Klippenstein posts news—usually about shady shit the U.S. government is doing—on a very irregular basis. You may get a post every 1-2 months.
  • SocDoneLeft – SDL posts articles usually using statistics to argue things. Oftentimes arguing against conservative talking points. They also quite often debunk fake leftist revolutionary quotes spread around by conservatives and discuss where they actually came from. That's always fun.
