Mitt Romney

Mitt Romney is a candidate for the God, Guns, and Gays Party nomination in the 2008 U.S. Presidential Election. As of August 2007, he was the third-placed Republican candidate, however he has been in the lead in both Iowa and New Hampshire (Mike Huckabee has since overtaken him in Iowa, if only barely). He has since lost the Iowa caucus and is seemingly trailing John McCain in New Hampshire. A former absentee Governor of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, his term ended in January 2007.

Though it is still early in the Presidential caucus/primary season, Mitt Romney's campaign is now considered to be in serious jeopardy. His only saving grace is that Republican voters are still very much mixed in their support of the other possible candidates.

His membership in the Mormon Church has been an element of controversy in the run-up to the election. As a political grandstander, he has been firm in pointing out that in the West, "marriage" has meant "one man and one woman" for over two thousand years. Despite being a Mormon, he has had fewer wives than Newt Gingrich, Ronald Reagan, or Rudolph Giuliani.

He also wants to "double the size" of the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

His hair, however, is perfect.

One of his claims to fame was his saving of the Salt Lake City Olympics from rampant corruption.

Mitt Romney ended suspended his campaign on February 7, 2008 after seeing his results in the Super Tuesday primaries, saying that him staying in the race "would make it easier for Senator Clinton or Senator Barack Obama to win" and that his campaign would "be a part of aiding surrender to terror". Whatever helps you sleep at night, Mitt.

After that he endorsed John McCain on February 14 and has supported him ever since. This must have impressed him as Romney is now said to be one of McCain's choices for a Vice-President, though God knows why.

[edit] Quotes

During the presidential campaign he said:

"In recent years the notion of the separation of church and state has been taken by some well beyond its original meaning. They seek to remove from the public domain any acknowledgment of God. Religion is seen as merely a private affair with no place in public life. It is as if they are intent on establishing a new religion in America - the religion of secularism. They are wrong."[1]
