I am not surprised,[edit]

but there is a very noticeable double standard operating here. Were I to wander through all the articles here, or just this one, and remove everything that is not primarily just someone's feelings, there would be precious little left. Are you claiming that what I labeled as credential bullying and weasel words are not examples of that? Have you followed those links? You probably (projection on my part) wrote what is at the other end of them. You folks get to dish it out but can not take it? Is that what it is/ If the cap fits, don't wear it? So it is to be that I get told to provide sources and/or not put in my feelings into me editing, while others are to have a carte-blanche. Just trying to understand the ground rules here. Hmmm? — Unsigned, by: Carptrash / talk / contribs

It's very simple, actually. If the opinions of the writers must be overt in an article, we should try to keep it from jumping back and forth between two opposing viewpoints -- because it looks stupid.
If you object to that weasel stuff, you should remove it. Or bring it up on the talk page. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish! Why don't you quiet down? 12:34, 19 August 2008 (EDT)
We are NOT NPOV - we reserve the right to be biased in the snarky direction - If it's too much - remove it or edit it - don't comment in the body of the article - that's what talk pages are for. SusanG  ContribsTalk 12:41, 19 August 2008 (EDT)
Carptrash, posting a comment like that with no links to anywhere you complain about is a bit empty. Makes it hard to discuss it with you, and take your side or the opposite. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:12, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

Thanks, Jelly, I see now. Yeah, tendentious commenting like that in an article doesn't go over very well. Those are issues to be raised on the talk page, where the comments can be discussed clearly. And I doubt we would tend to "rewrite" that stuff to be "psychic-friendly". "Crossed over" for "died"??? ħumanUser talk:Human 15:03, 20 August 2008 (EDT)

CP Sysops you have been blocked by[edit]

(Showing my academic erudition here, and finally finding use for my Ph.D. in Conservapediantics) Block rights in CP are separate from being a Sysop. For example, wouldn't you boast with being blocked by Bugler? He is not a Sysop but has block rights. And the opposite is true too: actually the Block rights-list is much smaller than the Sysop list. Your "impossible" Admin and EdBot don't have blocking privileges at the moment. This is the list of users with block rights at the moment, here are the Sysops Administrators instead. Editor at CPLiar at RP! 10:20, 29 August 2008 (EDT)

And obviously I was wrong, as too many people not on the Block list can and do block, starting from Andy. Editor at CPLiar at RP! 10:25, 29 August 2008 (EDT)
So I guess both Sysops and non Sysops with block rights can block. I would STILL suggest including the non Sysops with blocking rights, Bugler et co., in your list. Editor at CPLiar at RP! 10:27, 29 August 2008 (EDT)
Young man, it shall be a sorry circumstance indeed when I am blocked by Bugler. Honestly, now.
Anyway, I don't want to encourage the petty underlings like Jinx any more than necessary. (Also, I'm lazy.) <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish! Why don't you quiet down? 20:08, 29 August 2008 (EDT)

Well obviously, when there aren't many mowses around, you might find yourself transcluding earwigs or even giraffes into your signature. I think you can see that, given the dangerous psychological effects of giraffes, this is not a satisfactory state of affairs.

Allow me to clear up your confusion! I noticed your comment "Ditto (more-or-less)", which I took to mean that you were almost, but not quite, in England. Then I thought, "Aha! Isle of Man is an island which is almost, but not quite, England. The logical conclusion was almost unavoidable. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 07:51, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
Alright. Two things:
1) My "more-or-less" remark was actually referring to the fact that I am not currently in England.
2) I'm confused about Dinky Island, not your apparent yearning to be a private detective ^_^ New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 07:53, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
Well, don't feel bad about that. Everone is confused about Dinky Island. This is only natural, since Dinky Island in fact exists solely to create confusion. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 07:58, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
You should solve the mystery with your detective skills. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 20:21, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
Wasn't that mystery more or less solved in Curse of Monkey Island, though? --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:37, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
Was it? I was informed that Ron Gilbert refused to tell anyone what really happened, and therefore the Curse people made up their own version. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 20:45, 15 September 2008 (EDT)
I wouldn't rule that out. However, all I know is that I thought the ending to Monkey Island 2 was really effing weird and just a little bit crappy, but that Curse made it all make sense somehow. I don't remember the details, so I suspect I may have been subjected to some form of hypnotism. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:53, 15 September 2008 (EDT)

Curse being written better than Revenge? Have you succumbed to some kind of debilitating delirious fever, Mr Jeldsen? New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 07:11, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
You have to admit that, although everything up to that point is brilliant, the ending is just bloody strange. If there hadn't been a Curse to salvage it, what would its legacy have been? I'm just asking. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 14:32, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
I like strange endings :P
And even if that doesn't sway you, it still has the best jokes, the best portrayal of each character, and the best graphics (yes, even including Curse and... er... the fourth one). The plot of Curse is just silly. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 14:44, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Of course it's silly. It's Monkey Island, it's supposed to be silly. But it's not supposed to be entirely non-sequitur and unrelated to the rest of the game, such as, to take one example completely at random, the ending of MI2. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 16:44, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Actually, the only thing I don't like about the ending of MI2 is the air of parody. If they'd played out the turning-into-children bit with complete seriousness, and without any of the "Luke I am your brother" or "I'm a mighty pirate" stuff, I would, in fact, have classed it as an excellent ending. You just don't like Gainax Endings. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 17:59, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Hey, they actually list MI2 on that page! Truly I am not worthy! New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:02, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
That is correct, I don't particularly like Gainax Endings. And this one is made worse by another trope I don't particularly fancy either. It feels completely artificial, tacked-on and out of connection with the rest of the storyline and generally just made me feel like this:
Me when I saw how MI2 ended.
(Again. (Actually, that's a feeling I experience fairly regularly. (For some reason.))) --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 18:31, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Yay! Multiple brackets! I used to do that all the time! ^_^ New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:55, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
<sulk>I wish you wouldn't use that template. It doesn't suit you at all</sulk>
Anyway... who said it was all a dream? I seem to recall that that interpretation was actually ruled out by Somethingorother Gilbert. Although, to be honest, everything to do with the MI2 ending might well be based purely on his desire to make things complicated for his successors.
But anyway, I still like it. Even that slight fly in the ointment does not excuse the monumental heresy of claiming Curse is better. I shall expect a full retraction, and some form of medal. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:54, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
You shall have neither. Curse clearly wins the prize here, not least through the fact that its writers managed to make some form of sense of that horrid mess Gilbert left them. Plus Murray. Murray is practically incomparable. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:04, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
I am docking Curse several dozen points for having such irritating graphics. And I'm sure I could name something better than Murray in MI2 if my memories of it weren't so fuzzy. Looks like Revenge is in the lead again! New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 20:12, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Curse doesn't have irritating graphics, it has quite excellent graphics. Any person of education and taste would realize this. In any case, I'm not saying that Curse is better than Revenge as such, only that the ending of Revenge is horrible and that the writing team of Curse should be commended for managing to salvage it to some extent. The rest of Revenge is, as stated above, brilliant, which leads me to believe either that its writers were highly "influenced" when they wrote the ending or that Gilbert had realized at the time that his days at LucasArts were numbered and decided, spitefully, to leave a little creative "present" for his successors. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:34, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
I am helpful copyeditor mowse ^_^
Curse just doesn't look like Monkey Island, to me. And indeed, I too commend the writing team for retconning the ending into essential non-existence, but I still think their efforts pale in comparison to Revenge.
Also, I advise you never to watch Akira. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 20:42, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
But do we actually know that the ending was written by the same person or group of people who wrote rest of the game? Perhaps the writer/writing team was/were possessed by evil, mischievous spirits from an alternate dimension just before they got to the ending? I personally consider this explanation highly likely because it would make precisely as much sense as the ending itself. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:49, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Whatever happened to your pet theory that a writer's interpretation of their work shouldn't be given precedence over anyone else's? Doesn't this contradict your new "irish fairy" theory? :P New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 20:55, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Quite the contrary, because it is, after all, my interpretation that their work might as well have been done by Irish faeries. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:59, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
But you were implying that if the ending happened to have been written by someone else, it would delegitimise the storyline somehow. This clearly rests on principles that contradict your silly theory :P New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 21:03, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
Uh, that doesn't really seem to follow...
Okay. Here's what we'll do. I'll go and block myself now, and then I'll go to sleep. And tomorrow I'll take another look at your statement and explain precisely why you are completely wrong. Or maybe I'll just ignore it. Time will tell. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 21:07, 16 September 2008 (EDT)
I have returned, and have decided to reply with a request for further information. How have I implied that this situation would "would delegitimise the storyline"? Even after seven hours of sleep, that still doesn't make sense. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 05:59, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
You said "do we actually know that the ending was written by the same person or group of people who wrote rest of the game?" -- which, under your old theory, would actually have no implications as long as the players saw the story as a whole. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 10:29, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
In that case, you may not have fully understood my theory, which by the way in fact is not at all my theory, because of course it would have some implications if there were two different writers involved. "My" theory focuses on the interpretation of a given work, not the circumstances of its genesis. It is also interesting that you say "as long as the players saw the story as a whole", because that is precisely what I suspect a lot of players didn't do due to the ending so clearly having absolutely nothing to do with the rest of the story up to that point. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 18:06, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
I would've thought that the theory would have discounted the "circumstances of its genesis" entirely, if the people who generated it have no importance. However, I never really understood your theory, and I'm understanding it less and less the more I hear about it.
Any chance we could talk about something slightly less technical for a while? New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:22, 17 September 2008 (EDT)
Aw. Highly technical discussions are fun. But yes, we can talk about something else. As long as that something else does not involve fictional characters with names made up of single characters. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 17:27, 18 September 2008 (EDT)
