Emotions are what keeps me alive. Love is emotion number one. But there are others. Here I'll start a compilation.
[edit] Encounters
I feel an incredible fascination for meetings of different cultures, of the amazement, curiosity, fear, friendship of those moments. I get moved - to tears no less! - every time. No doubt it stems from me being a foreigner in every country I am.
- Marco Polo, Ennio Morricone's finest piece, live concert (Here is the original soundtrack version). I suggest to track down the 1982 Italian TV series. Wonderful. Even Ken Marshall's awful acting adds to the quality.
- The Mission, again by Morricone. An undervalued movie. Whether you are Christian or socialist, this movie is for you. Oh, I forgot the encounter part (oboe, Jeremy Irons).
- The New World, opening sequence and a mixed sequence of encounters. My favourite movie of all times. Not suggested to anybody, most people hate it.
- Kukushka (The Cuckoo), a wonderful little Russian movie about a three language encounter. But find a version without Russian overdubbing - the whole idea is that of the three languages!
- Pinocchio, the 1972 Italian TV production. The encounter between a piece of wood and life. What a soundtrack! And real Italian atmosphere, soul and spirit too - worth finding. (An abridged version became a theatrical movie).
- War and Peace (no movie can make justice to Tolstoy's novel, but Bondarchuk makes an incredible job. Forget the Audrey Hepburn version). The day before an encounter often is full of fear, scare, but also excitement. And then the Black Virgin of Smolensk comes... But an encounter can also be a young girl's first encounter with society, full of trepidation and silly aspirations.

Argh. Another stupid school shooting in Finland. Possibly many victims according to the police. What is Finland becoming, a new US?!? A couple of thoughts
