Liberapedia was created in response to Conservapedia. They modestly claim to be "Saving The World From Neoconservative Fascist Hatemongering Racists" and to be "saying what everybody else is just thinking".

The founder (known only as "WillH") wanted Liberapedia to parody Conservapedia and advised that: "most articles should take stereotypical liberal views and distort them to the extreme".

[edit] Two Liberapedias

In May 2008 after a particularly bad spam attack, WillH was presumed dead and the remaining users decided to move the site to Wikia. This allowed the new owners to recast themselves as bureaucrats, so Liberapedia could promote new sysops once more. For about seven months the Old and New Liberapedia sites were both online, creating some confusion. [1] During this time, Google displayed the old archived site above the new active site.

[edit] Typical content

The website is painfully stagnant. Parts of Liberapedia are quite interesting (certainly the Sleeping Typewriter cited below thinks so). Liberapedia is very biased in favor of liberal opinions and the site is meant as a parody of Conservapedia. It is actually more truthful than Conservapedia or CreationWiki,[2] but what the hell isn't? At least the parody is intentional at Liberapedia.

The site suffers from being deadly serious, but also has what they consider to be highly satirical articles that they apparently think are worthwhile.[3] There is also some complete nonsense on the site, but this should be shown with a template stating that the content is nonsense. To put it simply: Liberapedia is not "humor" as such, but more about parody and satire. On the "about" page they claim their "aim is to create an wiki that is both relatively factual and funny at the same time". As with many aesthetic issues, how well they succeed at this is controversial.

[edit] One creative writer’s opinion on Liberapedia

  • "This is just a menial start to a healthy laughing experience which I highly encourage you to undertake. Spread the word. The world is not entirely full of uptight *cough cough* anyway . . . " - The Sleeping Typewriter[4]

[edit] What they say about other Wikis

[edit] RationalWiki

It has a short, rather uninformative and (as of 3 Feb 2009) out-of-date article on RationalWiki [5] which includes the statement: Rational Wiki has a conservative bias (Get the joke?). Though it is somewhat less pronounced than that of many other wikis it is still very prominent.

On the other hand it does have a very good spoof of our logo - which may even be better than the original. This logo has been "borrowed" by RationalWikiWiki.[6]

[edit] The rest

Liberapedia has a brutal article on Conservapedia,[7] and on Ridiculous Quotes from Conservapedia [8].

It also has a small article on EvoWiki [9]
