Argument from morality

The argument from morality is the apologist argument that God is the source of all morality, and therefore if morality exists, then God exists.

[edit] Refutations

There are several obvious flaws:

  • Many atheists are moral
  • There are explanations for the origin of morals other than Goddidit
  • Many prominent Christians are immoral.

Thanks to Lawrence Kohlberg's work in psychology, he identified that fundamentalist Christians had the same level of moral reasoning as a child, and have in fact remained stunted at that stage of development. Most Christians claim that their only motivation for moral behaviour is the threat of punishment (going to Hell) and self-interest (going to Heaven).
