If anything goes weird with your indentation, it will show you right away. Also, it gives you a chance to notice whether you remembered to sign. I don't know if anything is set in stone about it. The flexible rule I follow is to indent one more level than the previous comment, or one more than the comment I'm replying to. I think posting at the bottom of the section is most usual, unless somewhere else works better, for instance if you're replying to something way earlier. Don't unilaterally ban users for that long. Sure that user's insistence that there's a grand unified conspiracy theory, and we'll get it if we just watch enough youtube videos, is annoying, but 3 months is a very long time. Timeline's meant to be an overview so I'm not going to try to squeeze this in but FYI, the only Gamergater tweeting "racist" stuff was j_millerworks, and his tweets were obvious nonsense to discredit the hashtag. Big diff between "yall got laptops? I do" with a pic of a stolen laptop (Ayyteam) and "to stay in your best rioting shape I recommend a raw vegan diet" (Jmillerworks), which no one except buzzfeed apparently is gullible enough to take seriously.
