Lulz

Lulz are the reason for being.
The word is a mutation of "LOL"[1] over years of misuse to instances and images that do not constitute a laughing of the out loud. Instead, the lulz is a subtle form of intellectual mockery that the not-so-smart may not understand. It may also be used in forms of criminal acts, with the perpetrator in question stating "I did it for the lulz."
