Evil Liberal Science Conspiracy

The Evil Liberal Science Conspiracy is a probably imaginary group whose existence would be required for some conservative beliefs, such as global warming denialism and creationism, to make sense.
Such beliefs tend to have as one of their core axioms that some commonly-held scientific theories are utterly, totally wrong, and that a secretive, world-spanning cult of "scientist-priests" are suppressing this knowledge for their own evil ends. Its roots may actually stem from when "priests" actually did withhold information about the world from their flocks in order to maintain their power.
Most people with any understanding of how science is supposed to work find this unlikely at best, and more probably delusional.
