Vandaled IP

Hello, it's me, Arthropleura. NR blocked me for an hour after I reverted his edits to my userspace. Would there be the possibilty of making me impossible to block, since all too often I am blocked on a whim for long periods of time? --67.159.45.96 16:07, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

He blocked you for calling him an idiot. --  Nx/talk  16:09, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Also, those edits were not in your userspace when NR made them. --  Nx/talk  16:12, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
  • I'm in a meeting and don't have a lot of time to deal with this but I'll briefly explain. The bar pages are not Arthur's userspace except by fiat, which isn't appropriate. It's not for Arthur to unilaterally determine the content of a mainspace page that several of us spent hours having fun with last night. I blocked him for 5 minutes while I was (doing a bad job of) cleaning up his sanitization and Arthropleurization of these pages. I then unblocked him within mere minutes. I blocked Arthur for an hour when he came back to blank my userpage with personal insults. He's now done this several times from several IPs after being blocked and vandal binned. I don't have time for this right now. Will be happy to talk more about this in a bit when I get out of my meeting. First of al, it was vandalism, not 'fun,' Second of all, I made it, and if no one else actually wants it for anything besides vandalism, then it is my right to move it to my user space. Oh, and your user talk page is not your property, and I did not blank it, merely eliminated a redirect. --67.159.54.26 16:29, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

You may have started it, but that doesn't make it yours. You blanked the previous content and replaced it with this. You can have your own personal bar in your own userspace, but you can't delete the one from mainspace. --  Nx/talk  16:32, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Vandalism has been archived. If anyone wants to vandalize it, that will be acceptable on one condition: they will allow me to archive it and put things back to normal. --Prim arthropleura.jpg 16:35, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
I guess you're correct about the blanking, since I failed at properly archiving my talk page and left it only half redirected. But what's the point of arguing about any of this? You lose. It is not your "right" to move any mainspace page to your userspace just because you take some personal pride of ownership of something that's simply not yours. Sure, you could do it if there was a consensus, but I believe this was already at least cursorily discussed and that the emerging consensus was that the bar pages are not your property. Last night's edits were not vandalism merely because you wish to call them that. I'm sorry you don't like how this is turning out. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svgUser:Nutty Roux/sigtalk 16:36, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Call it whatever you want. It's been archived. Now, the next time this happens I'll just clean it up, okay? No major deal. --Prim arthropleura.jpg 16:38, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
This is too hard to deal with on an iphone. Please just put things back they way they were this morning. You're just dead wrong. Please stop escalating and arguing. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svgUser:Nutty Roux/sigtalk 16:41, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
The place was a mess. I most certainly will clean it up, and I am not deleting or censoring anything. --Prim arthropleura.jpg 16:42, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
This is eating up the recent changes dialog to the point where it has ceased to be funny. Why not just leave the entire thing alone for at least 24 hours, both of you take a chill pill and deal with it tomorrow. Scarlet A.pngd hominem 16:46, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
This is my 4th post on the subject in like an hour. Get over yourself. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svgUser:Nutty Roux/sigtalk 16:52, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Sandbox2

Your sandbox is upsetting Pibot, do you need it much longer? - π 12:49, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

I'll remove it, I have it on my local mw so I don't need it here, sorry about that. --  Nx/talk  12:50, 7 June 2009 (UTC)
That okay. I think it was scanning the page and couldn't find the template so it was chucking a fit. - π 13:28, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Your fetish for rounded boxes

I like it, it matches the mainpage, which I copied from some stuff Ryan did on his userpage, which he copied from... Is there a way for people who hate it to monobook.js it away? ħumanUser talk:Human 23:33, 13 June 2009 (UTC)
Use a crappy browser that doesn't support border-radius...alternatively, add a class and then remove the border-radius in monobook.css with !important. For example:
<div class="rounded" style="-moz-border-radius:1em; -webkit-border-radius:1em; border-radius:1em; background:LightSteelBlue; display:inline; padding:.2em;">I'm rounded</div>
I'm rounded
then add
.rounded {
  -moz-border-radius:0 !important;
  -webkit-border-radius:0 !important;
  border-radius:0 !important;
}
to monobook.css. -- Nx / talk 00:33, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Perfect

You already updated the docs. You're almost as fast as CaptureBot. Nutty Roux100x100 anarchy symbol.svgUser:Nutty Roux/sigtalk 21:26, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

It's actually something I never tested. -- Nx / talk 21:37, 14 June 2009 (UTC)
I'm also going to steal your idea and turn Capturebot's sandbox into a general link capturing place. -- Nx / talk 21:40, 14 June 2009 (UTC)

Capturebot improvements

I was thinking a little about fixing the memory usage and article length issues in capturebot. Seems to me a divide and conquer approach would probably work well. Render clips only a few hundred pixels long at a time and write them to the filesystem uncompressed (windows bitmaps? PNM?) then stitch them together and compress with imagemagick as postprocessing. I'll have a go modifying the webkit2png script, but I'm still waiting on qt-webkit to be installed (on dependency 26 of 48, and one of the things still to be installed is qt itself which'll take forever. Yawn.) --JeevesMkII The gentleman's gentleman at the other site 11:59, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Won't imagemagick use up the same ammount of memory though? Doesn't it uncompress the images when joining them? -- Nx / talk 12:02, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
No, there's no need to have the whole image in memory just to compress (or decompress) it, just a small buffers worth. It's a two pass process, the first pass to build an index and the second pass to compress the data. --JeevesMkII The gentleman's gentleman at the other site 12:07, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
I just tried convert test1.png test2.png -append output.png where both test1 and test2 are screen caps of Pan arabism (truncated at 32766 pixels). After an initial spike of over 700 megabytes, it went down to 500 while combining, which is the size of both images uncompressed (webkit2png needs about 250 megs to capture them) (and the result was blank where the other image should've been) -- Nx / talk 12:28, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
Hrm, interesting. Anyway, I shall experiment. --JeevesMkII The gentleman's gentleman at the other site 12:37, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Could you upload the image you're using so I can compare memory usages? Thanks. --JeevesMkII The gentleman's gentleman at the other site 12:52, 15 June 2009 (UTC)

Here it is, thumbnails couldn't be generated, but if you click full resolution the image will be there: http://www.conservapedia.com/Pan-Arabismimg -- Nx / talk 12:55, 15 June 2009 (UTC)
