I'll drink (a drink, a drink) to Lilly the Pink. SusanThe Earth Moved 12:55, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Most efficacious in every case! Looks like another bottle-of-Crackling-Rosé night for me! LilyThank you very much! 13:40, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Wow, I haven't heard that song in years! My dad was a big Clancey Brothers/Tommy Makem fan, and passed the love of their stuff on to me. --Kels 13:46, 1 March 2008 (EST)
This side o' the pond it was "The Scaffold" a 60s poetry/folk group that (if I remember correctly) included Paul Macca Macartney's brother.SusanThe Earth Moved 13:56, 1 March 2008 (EST)
I think Kels may have been referring to Cracklin' Rosie.  Lily Thank you very much! 13:59, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Aah! of course! I remember now - eggselent song. SusanThe Earth Moved
Actually, I was referring to the Clanceys, who did the version I'd originally heard of it. I suppose you're referring to the original. It was definitely the same song, and I've never heard "The Scaffold" in my life, so work it out from there, eh? --Kels 14:05, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Other possibility is my memory is faulty, and I'm remembering an Irish Rovers cover of it, but it's still the same song. --Kels 14:06, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Oh the Clancy Brothers! Yes them micks did a cover of the Scaffold.  Lily Thank you very much! 14:11, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Can I join the Clancy Brothers party? My grandpa imparted the love of them to me... <3 Patriot Game, especially.-αmεσ (tinker) 14:16, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Say, it ain't the Clancey's or the Scaffold, but have you seen this? It's amazing. --Kels 14:34, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Apropos of nothing, Kels, I used to hang out with Tommy Makem's boys as they honed their musical chops at an open mic night I used to frequent. Hi Lily! Welcome to the Dollhouse! humanUser talk:Human 14:53, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Wow, there's an honour and three quarters, for certain! What I wouldn't have given for moments like that, whew! --Kels 14:56, 1 March 2008 (EST)
Ringo Starr bought me a drink! SusanThe Earth Moved 14:59, 1 March 2008 (EST)
I shot the photo Natalie MacMaster gave to her mom after she became pregnant. It's not much, but it's something! --Kels 15:22, 1 March 2008 (EST)

Why the undo on the Spencer-homeschooling entry? --Jdellaro 13:45, 12 March 2008 (EDT)

Check check...thought it was hilarious when I saw it. Will wait for it to be removed before bringing it to the forefront! --Jdellaro 14:47, 12 March 2008 (EDT)

IKEA[edit]

As a matter of fact, I have... vaguely followed the dispute. However, personally I've already been insulting IKEA for years, so I figure it's only fair. ;-) --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 19:09, 25 March 2008 (EDT)

Now you're thinking with proxies[edit]

Your remark re:proxies has got me to finally do what I've been intending to do for more than half a year: start my 'how to use proxies, and generally be a menace' article. It's by no means finished, but it does contain a 'how to use proxies' section. Enjoy. --מְתֻרְגְּמָן שְׁלֹום

Thanks, Int. Just a casual remark and hey Presto!  Lily Ta, wack! 06:57, 30 March 2008 (EDT)

Browser?[edit]

I just noticed this on your "KTD talk" screencap... What browser do you use? The icon is strangely unfamiliar to me, but if I had to guess, I'd say it's Mozilla maybe? Just idly curious... --Sid 07:32, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

It's called Maxthon (see maxthon.com) and I've used it for yonks. It runs on top of the IE engine but you can also use Gecko. It's handling of tabs is much better than IE or Firefox. You can save URLS as a group and open them all with one click. So I have different groups for RW and CP as well as my other interests. For RW I can open my talk page, WIGO, TWIGO, and Recent Changes in one go and have them tiled on screen. There are several add-ons as well. It used to be called MyIE and there is a new version 2 but I still use 1.6 as I'm used to it.  Lily Ta, wack! 07:45, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Ah, interesting, thanks! I think I heard the name, but that's pretty much it... might look into it later. --Sid 07:53, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Oh, what a giveaway![edit]

I see somebody reads the funny pages. =D --Kels 12:20, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

I like to show off my worldliness. But I only read them when I get US newspapers or find the odd strip on teh intertubes. I don't know of any syndication for GF in the UK.  Lily Ta, wack! 12:36, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
I've been reading it here for quite a while now, although there are a lot of webcomics (like Questionable Content, The Adventures of Dr. McNinja or my friend's paean to Sailor Moon, Tenth Charm) that hold my interest much better. Unfortunately, my own poor attempt at webcomicing is on indefinite hiatus at the moment, while I actually learn to draw. --Kels 12:50, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Bohdan reminds me of the cat in GF... or is it vice versa? humanUser talk:Human 13:02, 21 April 2008 (EDT)
Actually, Bucky reminds me of a combination of Andy, Koward and TeamKiller. Delusional, violent, confrontational and really not very bright. Bodhan...I can't really see a good comic analogy for him off the top of my head..maybe Indie Rock Pete? --Kels 13:19, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Botulinus[edit]

Thanks very much for the offer of more PCs. I've tried contacting your brother but his mobile seems to be switched off. Are you sure he can supply 350 units? It seems like a lot. Jollyfish.gifGenghisRationalWiki GOLD member 16:32, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

If you SMS him he'll ring you back Sunday morning. He's in IT supervising the hardware burn-in of a new computer centre for a major insurance company in Manchester. They have over 350 PCs and he reckons it will be a good test of their security. Evidently everything is wiped and re-imaged before release so he's quite happy about it, especially when I told him how homophobic they are, he even said he might have a few contacts in London who could help out.  Lily Ta, wack! 18:43, 10 May 2008 (EDT)

That the User Formerly Known as Chaos! stole your name? Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 15:46, 23 September 2008 (EDT)

Indeed. I hereby demand that you rename yourself "Lily The". New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 15:56, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Unlike the piglet I will still have the same name next month.  Lily Ta, wack! 17:57, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Contrary to your suggestion, silly person, I am keeping this name forever. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:18, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Pink's a girl's name, are you a girl-wirly as well? Anyway I have infinitely more patience than you have demonstrated.  Lily Ta, wack! 18:22, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
It's not actually a real name, you know :P
Also, you can't be "Lily", either. I already have a Lily Nods.gif New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:38, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
I'm sorry to say that Lily, having used the name "Pink" for well over seven months now, probably has the superior claim to it. I even seem to recall there is some fancy legal phrase for this, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it is. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 18:51, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Actually, I've had "Pink" as a nickname since I was seven. I win. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:53, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Oooh! The numbers match! It must be a sign! ^_^ New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:54, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
I don't really think we can consider evidence from outside the site in cases that are of purely internal relevance. (There's probably a fancy phrase for that as well). --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 18:58, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Is there a fancy phrase for "begone with your lawyerly gibberish, fool"? I would like to use it. On you. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 19:01, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Don't be silly. What would you ever need such a phrase for? ^_^ --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 19:09, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
To use on foolish Big Red Dragons who insist on insisting that good, sensible mowses cannot call themselves "Pink" despite having the prior claim by many many years. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 19:15, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Right. Actually, there is such a phrase in the Roman Law, sort of: "What pleases the prince has the force of law." Lawyers tend to hate that attitude. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 19:19, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
You've said that before, actually. And it doesn't quite fit the situation. Anyway, yield to my demands and declare me the victor! New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 19:23, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
I'm sorry, Pink, I'm afraid I can't do that. I would love to explain why, but that would involve a lot more lawyer-speak, and I understand that this makes you... distraught. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 19:38, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Don't try and duck out of the debate, you cunning, evil dragon! I demand you expain yourself. Don't worry about the lawyerisms; I'll just bite down on this piece of wood while you're talking. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 19:57, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Okay. To make this mercifully short, a username is basically just like a trademark. It establishes an identity for a certain entity, whether a business or a site user. And just like a trademark is a form of intellectual property and protected by law, it can be argued that a username is covered by a sort of "Internet customary law" - you can't just show up at a site and assume someone else's username and identity. However, much like trademark protection is limited to those territories where a business does or can be reasonably expected to do business, the customary protection of a user name is necessarily limited to a single site at a time. While I "own" the identity of "AKjeldsen" here on RW, that doesn't prevent others from registering an account under the same name on other sites. I can't do anything about that, but on the other hand, they can't come here and claim the name on the basis of their registrations at other sites, either.
The logical conclusion of this is that when considering issues of usernames, and by extension of identity, the only relevant facts are those that come here from the site itself, in particular that Lily has gained ownership of the username "Lily the Pink" through the process of registration and usage. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:42, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Oh wait! I remember that phrase now: "Prior in tempore, potior in jure" - "earlier in time, stronger in right". --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:46, 23 September 2008 (EDT)

Wfg's Sig[edit]

The carriage return is caused by the random (<choose>) template being transcluded twice. To fix it, I'd suggest moving all the quotes into the main signature page. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:57, 23 September 2008 (EDT)

DISCLAIMER: At least, I think that's right. It couldn't hurt to try. New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 18:57, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
Actually I think it is having a space between the sig template name and the date stamp.  Lily Ta, wack! 19:09, 23 September 2008 (EDT)
No, I'm fairly certain it's the random thing. I've had this problem before.
Anyway, I'll just fix everything while you sleep, shall I? New3.pngPink(Astronomy Domine) 19:17, 23 September 2008 (EDT)

ROTFL[edit]

Is it spelled poof or pouf? Frickin' nice laugh in the middle of the night nonetheless! ħumanUser talk:Human 04:23, 21 December 2008 (EST)

Pretty sure it's poof, shortened from poofter. Private Eye has a "Pooves Corner". You may be getting confused with pouffe the item of French furniture. Also (just checked) WP reedirects poof to homosexuality while pouf is some old Frenchwoman's (Marie Antionette) hairstyle. -- Lily Ta, wack! 04:38, 21 December 2008 (EST)

What is "Ta, wack!" mean? It's probably been explained elsewhere, I know. Corry 00:58, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Well, "Ta" means "thanks". So I suspect "Ta, wack" means "Thank you very much". The English have a way with English that other countries utterly fail to fathom, as far as I can tell. ħumanUser talk:Human 04:11, 23 May 2009 (UTC)
Wack was a friendly term for another scouser (Liverpuddlian) particularly during those heady days of the "Mersey sound" during the 60s. It's rather dated now and I haven't heard it used in years decades.  Lily Inspirate me. 08:14, 23 May 2009 (UTC)

Born a scouser - always a scouser. She sometimes let's the accent out. Unfortunately, there is still a high degree of religiosity in my home town, probably because like Belfast & Glasgow there is still a big divide between Prods & Catholics. although there is much less animosity here - scouse humour tends defuse any issues.  Lily Inspirate me. 20:28, 5 February 2010 (UTC)
