Ecclesiastes
From RationalWiki
Ecclesiastes, a book in the Old Testament, is thought by some to have been written by King Solomon, although others believe the author is a subject rather than a monarch, because the writer's title ("Teacher," Hebrew qoheleth), his unique style of Hebrew and his attitude toward rulers (suggesting that of a subject rather than a monarch) may point to another person and a later period.
The world in Ecclesiastes is seen as being full of enigmas, the greatest of which is man himself.
From the perspective of his own understanding, the author takes measure of man, examining his capabilities. He discovers that human wisdom, even that of a godly person, has limits (ECC 1:13, ECC 1:16-18; ECC 7:24; ECC 8:16-17).
The author believes that human wisdom cannot find out the larger purposes of any gods or supernatural beings or the ultimate meaning of man's existence.
