Henry, you're making an obvious mistake here in assuming that any given individual only has one essential identity, and that any other identity assumed by that individual can be dismissed as a "sockpuppet." This is obviously not in keeping with the fluid nature of identities on the Internet. --AKjeldsenCum dissensie 20:06, 7 May 2008 (EDT)

Here he left after his Sysop powers were removed. I think the story should be on a page called something like "Administrative Abuse". I'm sure of that part. I thought he left CP in a "Hissy Fit" after not getting Sysop - but I'm not so sure of that one.--Bobbing up 15:46, 11 May 2008 (EDT)

(Undent) Somehow I got it into my head that HG had been banned at CP because some of the more ruthless sysops suspected him of being a deep cover sock. WP link issue[edit]

Well, geez, nothing can go wrong with that, can it? Might it not be easier to create a template saying that WP links should, if possible, be replaced with internal links rather than leaving someone without an easy way to find the intended information on the other side of the hyperlink? It's really not a good idea to sacrifice usability and accessibility for a hopeful future link -- that just expands the list of red links while leaving the person looking for further information high and dry. Not at all a good idea, sez I. EVDebs 19:19, 14 May 2008 (EDT)

The name is a nod to Coyote, a recurring character in Thomas King's novels and short stories. Nah, I don't know him. But I was snooping around talk pages, checking out what our old friends at CP were doing before CP when I came across him. Here is a classic example of the sort of pointed, caustic arguments he gets into (I diff linked the entire argument for your convenience). Actually, that entire talk page is one the reasons he is so unpopular—he really is an immense asshole. But his crowning achievement is on talk:Midge Potts (also check the archive), where Jinxmchue insisted that the transgender Midge Potts does not count as a woman, and therefore the article should refer to her as "he". Although being an asshole can't actually get you a long-term ban from Wikipedia—the real reason he got a long ban was that, apparently, whenever he was given light bans to reprimand his behavior, he would sock up and continue the same arguments.
I haven't looked him up on Conservapedia yet. What's he like there? Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 03:23, 26 May 2008 (EDT)
Fairly typical. From what I've seen, he seems to spend most of his time complaining about liberal bias, and the state of secular websites -- like Wikipedia. He was one of the main people involved in their discussion about how WP Hosts Evil PornographyTM that Warps Children's MindsTM. I thought he might be a sock mainly because he focuses on vilifying liberal strawmen rather than rooting for The Conservative Truth -- which is what I tend to do when I sock up.</sheepish>

Tony Stewart[edit]

While I agree that his work was mainly vandalism, we don't actively dissuade good honest vandalism. Some were borderline some were journeyman, suggesting a youngish editor. Long blocks (more than a few minutes....up to an hour) simply turn a potentially funny wandal into an unfunny page blanker and potential wingnut. I will not undo your present five day block. Yes! If you can, that is. I can't see any problems with what I have, so I thought I'd discuss it for a while and see if someone craftier would offer to fix it.
Thanks, by the way :) <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 15:26, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Your unwanted CR's are probably followed by a space, which creates that weird box and the font inside it. ħumanUser talk:Human 15:46, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
I don't understand. There don't seem to be spaces at the end of the templates in question. Surely you don't mean I should get rid of all the spaces in them? <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 15:53, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
If you look at them carefully, there is often an "editable" place on the line after the end of the sig code. That's your CR. Four tildes puts a space between the sig and the time/date, and that creates the box, etc. I don't think my tests below are valid, they need to be generated by four tildes to truly test them. ħumanUser talk:Human 15:56, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
But you can't get rid of that extra line, can you? And it seems to appear even in the signatures that actually work, like the blue Jellyfish one. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 15:59, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
I dunno, I deleted in on purple jellyfish (I think) just in case. Can you set the options at sig9 to 1,0,0,0,0,0 (etc.), picking one that phails, and then work through them one at a time? 16:05, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
We already know which ones phail -- it's written above. I still can't see the problem, even bearing that in mind. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 16:07, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

Yes, it did, but it's not a true "test" because of how I had to put it on the page. Why not attack the support files one at a time by locking sig9 to each one until it works right? ħumanUser talk:Human 15:57, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Hmmm, this should really be a valid test, because it does look exactly like what your sigs leave behind. Perhaps the problem is all at sig9? ħumanUser talk:Human 16:07, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

00:00, 1 January 1901 (GMT)

unsigned - breaks

grey squiggles - breaks

purple jelly - still breaks

The others work. Perhaps the two files together (sig9 + sigX) are generating a CR and a space? ħumanUser talk:Human 16:09, 4 June 2008 (EDT)

Do you think that's possible? I couldn't find any spaces or returns in sig9 just now. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 16:11, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
It must be possible, because it's sig9 that is breaking, the others all work fine on their own, right? Mind if I take a crack at it? ħumanUser talk:Human 16:34, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Be my guest! <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 16:35, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
I think I've got it, though you won't like the answer. I remember once trying to "nest" choose tags, and it didn't work. The three that aren't working are essentially nesting choose tags. In other words, there may not be a way to do what you want with this software. I just put everything back "the way it was" (I only edited sig9 really). Let's google "nesting choose tags mediawiki" now... ħumanUser talk:Human 16:49, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Argh, I should have noticed it was only the random ones that failed. Never mind, though -- even if there is no solution, I can probably make do with a random selector that only includes the simpler signatures. <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 16:52, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Maybe you can try "double nesting" - that is, make "oldersig" be {{x x x x/oldersig/content}} and put the choose junk in "content" just to see if it still breaks? ħumanUser talk:Human 16:56, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
You mean make the random part into its own template? Doesn't the "unsigned" signature already do something like that? <font=""; face="Comic Sans MS">Jellyfish!Make me a bureaucrat! 17:02, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Something like that, I guess. Just try any tricks you can think of to divorce the two sets of choose/option from each other. And, yeah, you're right, the unsigned one already "tests" that and it doesn't help. :( Oh well. ħumanUser talk:Human 17:39, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
I guess what you did with sig11 is the only way out - take all the silly profound sayings and make them their own sig files, at a low option weight relative to the "unchoosing" sigs, all wrapped up in sig9. ħumanUser talk:Human 17:40, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
That's far too complicated. My way out it just to go with "Fish can wish" forever. Until I come up with a better solution, anyway. 17:42, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
Works for me... glad we got to the bottom of why they were breaking, at least. Sadly, the nested tags half worked, they just created a spurious mess while doing it. ħumanUser talk:Human 20:17, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
True. It's nice to get messages, too :) 20:23, 4 June 2008 (EDT)
