True - I think that it's a fairly reliable finding by pretty much all of the Amnesty and HRW reports on the subject. That said, torturers do anticipate that. --מְתֻרְגְּמָן ^{שְׁלֹום}

OK, I will try again, this time I'm not sleep deprived, so I won't ramble. My question is, have there been any real laboratory experiments (double-blind, placebo-controlled) on the effects of torture on telling the truth compared to misinformation? Personally, I don't think torture would be right if it did work, but since other people have a more utilitarian ethics, the arguments both for and against should be informed by the scientific data of efficacy. Don't worry about the troll thing; some bored person didn't like what you were saying and thought they were funny. But yes, there have been various studies done (many by various agencies like the CIA) that show that the data they get from torture-induced answers is typically misleading and, often times, outright false in order to stop the torture. People (and all animals, really) have a natural aversion to pain and the threat of death and, logically, will do anything to make it stop. Should we really be having an image of someone smiling next to a corpse as the page image? I would think that oughta be marked as NSFW at least, but that feature would appear to be completely broken if I were to look at Help:Images in incognito mode. The Crow (talk) 22:34, 7 March 2020 (UTC)

Yeah but photos like this on the page take away from from the dignity of those poor people and would rightfully upset their families and loved ones. I get that this isn't a family friendly topic but the issue is much larger than that. If that was your dead brother would you want his image used here?
