God tells them not to eat the fruit of the tree of wisdom. Why put the tree there anyway?

Wider considerations

God must have ensured that 'the world outside the Garden of Eden' was habitable #before# sending A&E out into it.

Why didn't A&E actually ask God - why have you put these two trees of life and of knowledge in the Garden of Eden (and then told us not to eat their fruit)?

It could also be argued that A&E actually made a deliberate choice - Eve could have told the snake - you eat it and suffer the consequences/God told us not to/actually, eating the fruit of the other tree (or both trees) makes more sense. Anna Livia (talk) 11:54, 17 July 2018 (UTC)

… is actually an example of 'Chekov's Gun' - it is mentioned and so will be used (and God intended Eve and Adam to eat it eventually).

While the story is mythical/allegorical/trying to explain things according to the knowledge and 'systems of logic and beliefs' of the time rather than ours, there should have been more information included about such aspects. (God was going to let Eve and Adam try the fruit in due course/there is some connection between Adam and Eve consuming the fruit and God subsequently not knowing what they had done - the information had gone to them rather than to him etc). Agricultural revolution

One interpretation of the Garden of Eden story I’ve come across is that it’s an allegory for the agricultural revolution. Because we gained knowledge, we went from being able to simply forage for food to having to till the soil. That may be relevant to the article.
