Is filthy rich from oil money. This oil is extracted from bitumen. The extraction process pretty much kills everything for miles (or kilometres) around. The Conservative government has been in power for 37 years straight and counting. They essentially run the province like a feifdom since the opposition only holds four seats. The last provincial election had only a 48% voter turnout since everyone knew the Conservatives would win (yet again.) This gave them 77 seats, while the Liberals received four 4 and the NDP got 2. In June of 2008, Premier Ed Stelmach gave himself a $54,000 raise. His phone rang off the hook from people complaining, but he didn't care since the majority of Albertans will vote him in again next term.
