One should remind people the location of each tradition within the modern Christmas celebration - from the day it was chosen (see Sol Invictus) to the Great Ashen Faggot that sits on the hearth (assuming its not a day when burning things is restricted because of air pollution in cities). Once one looks at what each thing that is celebrated, most of Christmas is pagan... not that thats a bad thing, just makes it easier to absorb into secular capitalism and Saint Nick Santa Claus. Well, admittedly, my vision of authoritarianism only works with two stipulations: (1) corruption in the government does not exist and (2) beauracratic inefficiencies do not exist. Those are the only problems with liberal authoritarianism. To try another tack: if it could actually work, would you make the public dissemination of creationist propoganda and curriculum illegal? Why not? If an idea is clearly factually incorrect and/or immoral, then why allow it continue competing in the "marketplace of ideas", as if it were on equal footing with other, more valid ideas? I might add that both (liberal) authoritarianim and libertarianism make naive assumptions—authoritarianism's I named earlier, while libertarianism assumes that humanity will always be able to discern charlatanery from legitimate ideas, which we all know, is simply not the case.
