Well I am a materialist and a reductionist so I believe everything comes from basic physical interactions, including thought and behavior choice. The question for me is if there is a predictive causal chain between the materialistic components of action choice and the corresponding choice itself, or is there something along the path that adds an indeterministic element into the equation. The best bets for the ladder option are a)quantum mechanics and b) emergent properties. Everything I have looked at and read points to the fact that quantum effects probably play no role in the way the brain functions, so I set little stalk in that. The second option is more interesting, the idea that while the end result is caused by the base components it has properties that can not be attributed to just the base components. Essentially the ideas of emergent properties and self organizing systems. There MIGHT be a place in there for something analogous to free will but I remain skeptical. So I am leaning towards complete biological determinism but with a little wiggle room, but regardless I do not believe in a mind that is separate from the body so its just meat controlling meat for me. tmtoulouse ^beleaguer 12:54, 11 August 2007 (CDT)

I may have broken the software

I blocked Bohdan for 1234567891 months, to out-do CP with their 1234567890 month block of someone. Trouble is, when I go to unblock him, I get a message saying he has already been unblocked. Now, maybe, a ten million year block might simply be beyond the scope of the software, and he can still edit. But, also, my intended ten million nanosecond block might stretch deeply and undeftly into the future.
