Thanks, I didn't think people would notice I had joined this quickly. I've been reading articles for a few months now, I've done a few small "anonymous" edits on a few pages, but I decided it was time to register and really think about diving in. This wiki has been a great learning place for me so far, and I hope that I can help make it even better for the users that come after me. Reverend Lucifer (talk) 19:13, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
There are quite a few bored time-wasters Recent changes watchers, so it's nigh-impossible to go unnoticed unless you register at a totally bizarre time of day or somebody else is going on an editing spree and filling up the logs. — Unsigned, by: ORavenhurst / talkDo You Believe That? 19:15, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

"providing guidance rather than brow-beating the faithful for their idiocity."[edit]

Calling people "idiots" isn't really a good start for "providing guidance." It's really a brow-beating thing to do. Also, the word you want is "idiocy," not "idiocity." OnTheInternetNobodyKnowsYou'reAGod (talk) 19:01, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the spelling assist, and I suppose that may have come across wrong. What I meant was that I prefer to provide guidance and rational explanations to people rather than what I see a lot in the atheist blogosphere, which amounts to brow-beating people for what the authors in question consider idiocy. I'll rewrite it to be more clear that calling the faithful "idiots" is not my particular perspective, because I simply consider them misguided. Reverend Lucifer (talk) 19:13, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Yesterday NobodyKnowsYou'reAGod called somebody an idiot, it isn't clear if he insulted TheAmazingAtheist or someone from RationalWiki, see here. The pot shouldn't call the kettle black. Proxima Centauri (talk) 19:14, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
I realize that, but one of the first things I learned about logical fallacies is that just because someone is a hypocrite, it doesn't mean that their point is unsound. I took no offense, as I understand how the statement could have been misconstrued, so I adapted my wording to make my intention behind it more clear. Just because the pot is black, it doesn't mean that the kettle isn't. That's my entire sentiment behind enlightening and providing guidance, rather than brow-beating.
