Thanks! Theory of Practice "Now we stand outcast and starving 'mid the wonders we have made." 14:54, 15 January 2013 (UTC)

The pinkos that made common cause with Stalin.[edit]

My big left theoretical touchstone never made that mistake. Theory of Practice "Now we stand outcast and starving 'mid the wonders we have made." 01:53, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Good for him. He must have been quite a courageous individual; after all, opposing Stalin was not exactly the fashionable thing to do in Trotskyist circles... Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 02:48, 21 January 2013 (UTC)

Classic[edit]

Keep the Wiki safe for me while I am not here. Keep in mind that many of our fellow adversaries of the wingnuts are no friends of rationalism. There are pinkos beating at the gates; more now, I think, than before. Many are in open contempt of rationalism, and most contemn it tacitly.

And there may come a day when the courage of Men fails; when we forsake our friends, break all bonds of fellowship and let the pinkos trample us to the ground. But it is not this day!

Good luck with whatever you're doing. We're the worse for your absence. Blue (pester) 06:37, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Private prisoners and real estate[edit]

This is a cogently-argued analysis of some of the dynamics at play in that article. Theory of Practice Peter Tosh > Bob Marley 16:53, 8 February 2013 (UTC)

I saw that when it came out. I like how she does a delicate tap-dance around the claims that the CIA was engaged in genocide attempts during the last blast of the Cold War. A pity that the man writing the private-prison article could not even come up to that level of cogency in his, um, arguments. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:05, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

PZ Myers needs you![edit]

"So, this Odin guy…are his followers enlightened and tolerant?" :-) Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 21:38, 13 February 2013 (UTC)

This is why I dislike the use of stereotypes. If Prof. Myers were to come down to Paganistan and have a look around the Norse part of it, he would find a fascinating variety of moonbat cranks, a few (comparative) moderates who are perenially trying to put up a temple, a dancer/ latter-day völva, groups of musicians who network through Lutheran churches, one pervert who is outlaw and accursed, and perhaps a neo-Nazi or two, although the others have no truck with them. And, of course, me, so benighted and intolerant as to believe that people of other religions occasionally have an IQ greater than 0. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:19, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I always think it's a shame how PZ Myers is a smart thoughtful guy on pretty much everything except religion--"Shut up, Brx." 05:33, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Man, the comments are so full of fail--"Shut up, Brx." 05:35, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
As I think I said before, I have it on the authority of a former student in his department that he is a mediocre professor who is rather unpleasant in person. Open-mindedness makes for excellent professors, but very poor polemicists. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:39, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Ooh, I never figured you were one for gossip, LX. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 05:52, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
Heh, I believe it, after that second amendment was for slavery horseshit he indulged in. --Revolverman (talk) 06:03, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
The student was speaking from firsthand experience, and based on my own firsthand experience I had no reason to suppose that he was lying to me.
Did Prof. Myers believe Hartmann's "Second Amendment was for slavery" thing? I thought he of all people would remember that correlation does not equal causation. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 06:27, 14 February 2013 (UTC)
I think it's the beard. It makes him seem lovable. Like a brunette Santa Claus--"Shut up, Brx." 07:09, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

You're back![edit]

Nice to see your name in Recent Changes again! Wehpudicabok [話] [変] 04:38, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

News on the grapevine was that the Wiki is, or is becoming, (1) too left-wing, and (2) too anti-theistic. I gathered that I was needed pronto. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 04:49, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Ironically, someone just LANCB'd over the wiki not being anti-theistic enough! Nebuchadnezzar (talk) 04:56, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
To match irony with irony, I agree to some extent with what that user said, having in the past debated some editors who believe in legalized censorship. I might have gotten into some more debate like that if I had been around when the U.K.'s Leveson Report was published and there was talk of openly abolishing the free press there in order that Rupert ("Satan Incarnate") Murdoch might be given a nice big shiner.
I had noticed, before my Wiki-break, that the Wiki's general tone was shifting more and more from the scientific-atheist viewpoint toward a viewpoint that sees atheism only as a political or ideological cudgel to be used against those who are enemies for other reasons (e.g., wingnuts). This means many more pages dealing purely with matters of ideology, rather than those in which facts are of the first importance. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:30, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Don't worry, our moonbat category is expanding at a gradual pace. Osaka Sun (talk) 05:44, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Having a balanced set of "enemies" certainly mitigates the problem — indeed, I wrote some of the articles in that category — but the core question is deeper than that: whether we should be taking on these people because they are powerful/influential/extreme, or just because they are wrong. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 06:03, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Why not both? (Resists urge to link notorious gif) Osaka Sun (talk) 06:24, 8 August 2013 (UTC)
Because, as Daniel Patrick Moynihan is supposed to have said, "You are entitled to your own opinions, but not your own facts." If we can give an attack a factual basis, we have the weight of the truth behind us; if not, we are doing nothing more than anathematizing a heretic, even one so loathsome as the Rt. Hon. Stephen Harper. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 06:37, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Not bad, not bad — although I am surprised that it took so long to remove the "ironic sexism" that I inserted where indicated... Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 06:22, 9 January 2014 (UTC)

Anti-White discrimination[edit]

You said before that you were opposed to race discrimination, should be help Rationalwiki spread more light on the discrimination of whites by blacks? Double standards and all? After all, we are a rational wiki — Unsigned, by: 74.14.31.85 / talk / contribs 2013-09-10T13:06:21‎

Instead of a WTF???[edit]

I was going to ask if RationalWiki had abandoned all knowledge of snarkiness, but then I saw your name and thought "Oh wait, It's ListenerX". A Real Libertarian (talk) 07:24, 10 January 2014 (UTC)

Paranoia[edit]

Do you seriously think there's a physical/existential threat to the GOP moving into the Seward neighborhood? If you do, you are welcome over to my place any time to meet my neighbors and tell them of your inane thoughts about them and our neighborhood. Reckless Noise Symphony (talk) 09:54, 14 January 2014 (UTC)

No. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:08, 16 January 2014 (UTC)

Board of trustees[edit]

Someone has nominated you to the board of trustees. You may accept or decline here--"Shut up, Brx." 01:05, 30 January 2014 (UTC)

Obama and Fascism[edit]

I left a comment on the talk page of your Obama and Fascism page you may find important. Or not, I don't know. ClothCoat (talk) 06:36, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

Ragnarok[edit]

Are you buying it? Do you think Fenris will spare me and my cat if I turn off the lights?--"Shut up, Brx." 16:49, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Do you think the Polar Vortex is the Fimbulwinter? Have you been hiding from Jörmungandr, is that why you aren't posting?--"Shut up, Brx." 04:30, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
I have lately been facing a nasty dilemma: I could either (1) edit the Wiki, or (2) get sufficient sleep to prevent myself dropping over unconscious at my work-station, which would negatively impact my job performance.
As the Fimbulvetr (whose legend apparently had its origins in the same spate of freakish weather that caused the Plague of Justinian) is to last three years, and as Minneapolis's melt-waters are already running through caverns measureless to man down to, um, a slushy lake, I think Ms. Faircloth was tending toward the alarmist view of the matter. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:15, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

If I told you I was going to convert to Vanatru[edit]

Would we then become mortal enemies? Tell me that wouldn't be fun.--"Shut up, Brx." 04:31, 22 February 2014 (UTC)

The Edda says, "Never shall a man make offer of friendship to his foes." It is thus advisable to avoid making personal enemies at all. Mjollnir.svgListenerXTalkerX 05:20, 11 March 2014 (UTC)

Board self-nom[edit]

Hi. There seems to be some confusion as to your post on the page for Board of Trustees nominations. Care to shed some light on the matter? Noisemobile (talk) 10:55, 26 January 2015 (UTC)

You around?[edit]

Seems most of the people I knew back in teh day might not be around any more. Sad. Researcher (talk) 02:32, 9 August 2015 (UTC)
