I saw that when it came out. I like how she does a delicate tap-dance around the claims that the CIA was engaged in genocide attempts during the last blast of the Cold War. This is why I dislike the use of stereotypes. If Prof. Myers were to come down to Paganistan and have a look around the Norse part of it, he would find a fascinating variety of moonbat cranks, a few (comparative) moderates who are perenially trying to put up a temple, a dancer/ latter-day völva, groups of musicians who network through Lutheran churches, one pervert who is outlaw and accursed, and perhaps a neo-Nazi or two, although the others have no truck with them. And, of course, me, so benighted and intolerant as to believe that people of other religions occasionally have an IQ greater than 0. ListenerX^TalkerX 05:19, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

The student was speaking from firsthand experience, and based on my own firsthand experience I had no reason to suppose that he was lying to me.

To match irony with irony, I agree to some extent with what that user said, having in the past debated some editors who believe in legalized censorship. I might have gotten into some more debate like that if I had been around when the U.K.'s Leveson Report was published and there was talk of openly abolishing the free press there in order that Rupert ("Satan Incarnate") Murdoch might be given a nice big shiner.

I had noticed, before my Wiki-break, that the Wiki's general tone was shifting more and more from the scientific-atheist viewpoint toward a viewpoint that sees atheism only as a political or ideological cudgel to be used against those who are enemies for other reasons (e.g., wingnuts). This means many more pages dealing purely with matters of ideology, rather than those in which facts are of the first importance. ListenerX^TalkerX 05:30, 8 August 2013 (UTC)

Having a balanced set of "enemies" certainly mitigates the problem — indeed, I wrote some of the articles in that category — but the core question is deeper than that: whether we should be taking on these people because they are powerful/influential/extreme, or just because they are wrong. I have lately been facing a nasty dilemma: I could either (1) edit the Wiki, or (2) get sufficient sleep to prevent myself dropping over unconscious at my work-station, which would negatively impact my job performance.

As the Fimbulvetr (whose legend apparently had its origins in the same spate of freakish weather that caused the Plague of Justinian) is to last three years, and as Minneapolis's melt-waters are already running through caverns measureless to man down to, um, a slushy lake, I think Ms. Faircloth was tending toward the alarmist view of the matter.
