Hi there. I don't want to be your enemy and I'm not sure how long you have been a member. But equally I don't expect insults. If say something which you think is obviously stupid you might want to email me or ask me why I said it. But in any event I hope your you have a good time here. :-) Cheers.

Fair enough. I just tend to swear a lot because it makes me look cool. No offense meant.

OK. While I must understand that one generation regards swearwords as cool it might be wise if you considered that other generations (or societies) might not. If you wish to persuade others of the rightness of your views if might be be better to avoid language which might alienate them.

I learned this the hard way when debating creationists. One swearword and you were dead - but if you only use polite logic then they have no lever against your arguments. Sorry if I'm telling you obvious things of which you are already aware! :-)

I've always agreed with Penn on this: "I want to live in a world of a marketplace of ideas where everybody is busted on their bullshit all the time because I think that's the way we get to truth. That is also what respect is." I call my friends "bullshitters" all the time and vice-versa. Of course, I don't go around yelling "bullshit!" at everything, but you get the idea.

My point is that if you use extreme language then you give your opponent the opportunity to focus on your language rather than on your message.

It also makes people think you're getting angry with them, which often causing them to get angry in response. And suddenly the discussion turns into people yelling at each other that everybody else is a cockface. (This is based off what I have personally witnessed here. And engaged in first-hand, too : ) )

All good points. I just figured nobody at RW would care, because you're all like me.

What you see is some people being outspoken and rude. It is easy to assume that that is acceptable and the way things are done and that everybody is like this. It has not always been thus and, hopefully, things may change in the future.

Indeed. Few people here seem to be able to respond calmly when sworn at.

but but... is it ok to still sware at the politicians? Cause there is nothing more stratifying than calling those women-hating jackasses, "Fuckers".
