I removed a bit....[edit]

This bit right here:

Bad Guys[edit]

Interstingly the other sort of wifebeaters, the nasty sort, have a higer prevelence amoungst religious conservatives [citation needed]

...and I removed it because notwithstanding how in a smug liberal world view it's easy to argue that those "less enlightened" conservative folks have a monopoly on committing all the nastiness in the world, that's not at all true, and we should know that. Lots of well-meaning, enlightened liberal boys have beaten the crap out of their boyfriends and girlfriends. And a few well-meaning liberal girls have, too. Domestic violence isn't funny, and it's a serious problem that shouldn't be thoughtlessly harnessed to score a cheap political point. Someone should have known better. OK, agreed, mea culpa. I'll find the citation and start a discussion before any posible repostings. I don't want to make cheep political points - I want to make expensive ones. Silver Sloth 14:08, 30 January 2008 (EST)

RA seems to think this should be deleted, per his comment on EVDebs talk page (strange place to discuss it).

"I'm afraid I don't see the point of the article you just created. It's... it's about fashion for crying out loud. Not exactly relevant to RationalWiki's goals.

In my infallible, just, loving, magnanimous, perfect, wizened, and brilliant—did I mention I was humble, too?—opinion, it should be deleted." radioactive afikomen

I rather think it is mildly "on mission", as a corollary to a possible domestic violence article, and commentary on certain prejudices about same. By the way, a cut rate bargain goods outlet in Mass. took out an ad in the Globe (a coupla years ago) apologizing for an item they listed in their regular ads. I researched it, thinking they might have been selling "ghetto blasters" - but no, it was "wifebeaters". humanUser talk:Human 14:18, 30 January 2008 (EST)

"Ghetto blasters"... ^_^ Sounds like a fusion between Star Wars fandom and ghetto culture. It also just sounds funny. --Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 14:22, 30 January 2008 (EST)
Nah, just an obsolete and rather offensive synonym for "boom box", back when they were mostly sold in inner cities to people who couldn't afford real stereo systems. I've heard they were called "rasta blastas" in the UK; the racial association was a bit stronger there. (To me, all the modern models look like praying mantis heads, but whatever...) I don't see how this is interesting, let alone how it relates to authoritarianism, fundamentalism & the anti-science movement. The only links here are from a couple of talk/essay pages. Please let's delete this. ЩєазєюіδWeaselly.jpgMethinks it is a Weasel 08:56, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I concur. --PsyGremlinKhuluma! 09:06, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
Doesn't it relate to rednecks in merka? IE, perhaps teabaggers? ħumanUser talk:Human 09:43, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

I've always thought of it as linked to a Yorkshire or Lancashire mining town type. With a flat cap. --PsyGremlinRunāt! 09:52, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
