Far-right nuts paint a false portrait of Sweden[edit]

InfoWars, the Alt-right (and most recently Trumpsee above) have all been active in a 10+ year-long attempt to falsely portray Sweden as being somehow "near collapse" or "on the brink".

The irony being that: actually, Alex, we're not exactly doing badly compared to Texas (or to the US, generally). In fact, we're doing pretty OK compared to just about the entire planet, by most metrics no less. You're welcome, Alex.

The fictional Swedish collapse is generally attributed to something like: Sweden being ravaged by a tsunami of middle-eastern/african islamist rapefugees, swarming in day and night — by the boatload — on an open invitation from some vaguely defined bleeding heart liberal/"anti-racist"/SJW majority.

The highly respected Sveriges RadioWikipedia (something akin to the BBC of Sweden) has adressed this phenomenon in short:

Any skeptic who keeps running into these oft-repeated lies should be made aware that, unsurprisingly, the InfoWars/Breitbart narrative on Sweden is basically fake news. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 20:24, 19 February 2017 (UTC)

Good post! Bongolian (talk) 21:14, 19 February 2017 (UTC)
Can I put a modified version of this in the article? TheMyon (talk) 17:13, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Sure, buddy! Th hug.gif Also, note that each of the article links features a sound portion (big blue-and-white play button). Make sure to give them a listen. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 17:14, 21 February 2017 (UTC)
Perhaps they are thinking of the markets for swedes-the-vegetables? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 18:53, 21 February 2017 (UTC)

BBC on Sweden and rape statistics[edit]

A lesson in not confusing reported rape with actual incidence of rape. As the article concludes:

It is very hard to compare sex-related offences and rape across the world.

Police procedures and legal definitions vary widely around the world, making an international comparison meaningless.

The 2012 UN international rape rate comparison showed Sweden to have the highest rate of rape in Europe and the second highest in the world, but the report did not contain data for a total of 63 countries that did not submit any statistics, including, for example, South Africa, where other earlier surveys indicated a very high rape rate.

The most recent Eurostat data for the 28 EU countries also puts Sweden in the top spot.

But the agency warns that comparisons between different countries should be avoided because of differences between their legal and criminal justice systems, recording practices, reporting rates, efficiencies of criminal justice organisations and types of offences included in the categories.

There has also been a public debate in Sweden over the past two decades to raise awareness and encourage women to go to the police if they have been attacked.

This has resulted in a higher report rate than in other countries in Europe.

TL;DR: Sweden sure is the Rape Capital Of The World™ in the sense that any and all backwater nations — be they thirld world, dictatorships or theocracies — who simply do not publish data on rape are considered Certifiably Rape-Free™. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 12:32, 24 February 2017 (UTC)

Concerning the success of the multiculturalism policy[edit]

Interestingly, in Finland, Swedish nationals commit nine times more sexual crimes than Finnish nationals per capita. Their numbers exceed the numbers of Russians (whose attitudes to feminism are well-known to be bad) by more than three times. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immigration_and_crime#Finland 51.38.73.99 (talk) 01:58, 16 October 2019 (UTC)

Sweden's Prime Minister recently said that the integration of immigrants to Sweden has failed and has led to parallel societies and gang violence.[1] Van Nostrand (talk) 12:39, 4 September 2022 (UTC)

History?[edit]

The page doesn't seem to go into a whole lot of detail on the history of the country, just mostly the stuff during the last decade. By the way, should Bofors and Swedish Neutrality during WWII be mentioned as a form of War Profiteering, or is that not fair? 2607:FB90:38BB:2A68:31F:E206:9F48:1ED (talk) 06:18, 5 May 2022 (UTC)

Rise of the popularity of the Sweden Democrats (Right-wing party in Sweden)[edit]

Shouldn't this article mention the rising popularity of the right-wing Sweden Democrats political party? Van Nostrand (talk) 12:34, 4 September 2022 (UTC)
