Machine translation?[edit]
I’m not really qualified to talk on this, I learnt a bit of French in school as most Brits do but not more than that, but this looks suspicious. The only differences in the opening between google translate’s translation of the English and this article are a few I’d know to do (car to parce que etc). @Rairyu75 you patrolled it and added links, do you speak French? The only active user I know of who does is @Spud.
Perhaps I’m being paranoid, the rest of the article does have more differences although they’re still mostly superficial. Worth noting that our policy on RW:languages is generally that we should have more than one editor who speaks the language. Christopher (talk) 22:55, 8 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Christopher I'm on holiday for Chinese New Year at the moment. I'm using the one shared computer in the lobby of my little hotel. I'll have a closer look at this next week, if the page is till around then. You could try asking the BoN who created the page. It is a bit suspicious that the page appeared fully formed without being worked on in draft space first. Altough such machine translated pages are usually full of red links including red categories, which this one wasn't. If the same BoN creates more french pages in very quick succession, that would be very suspicious. Spud (talk) 06:56, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- I was the one who translated the article. I used my Wikipedia sandbox rather than Ratwiki's and I know it's janky and artificial in many ways but I assure you that I did the work myself. TheDeaconBosco (talk) 17:55, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
- @Christopher Nope, don't speak French. I patrolled it because it clearly wasn't trolling/libellous material, and becasue it was made by a good faith editor. If that's not enough, I'll leave translations in the Vandal Catcher. The editor above is, indeed, our BoN. I am acquainted with them on Discord. Seems like a nice enough lad, said they were translating this page and they were about to hit save, so I checked recent changes to let them know it seemed fine, then added a Navbar and a Category which was missing. :3 (Sorry if I was out of line with that Chris.) - Rairyu75 (Talk) 18:05, 9 February 2021 (UTC)
