Why do we need this article? Off the mission. --Idiot number 59 (talk) 06:50, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Off the mission, you say? Off with your head, more like! Robespierre § talk 18:04, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
"Sin", woo, and similar subjects are on-mission. Gambling does involve them. The article could use more content and some shuffling, though... ~ Kupochama[1][2] 09:25, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
You can find some subtle connection to "mission" with everything. I think that most Rwikians are just gamblers and they like to create articles about their favorite topics, be they on or off-topic. --Idiot number 58 (talk) 09:40, 28 August 2010 (UTC)

Bankroll management under 'woo'[edit]

Bankroll management is a fairly time-tested and well-known part of professional and even amateur playing, the main idea that limits must be observed to keep expected variance from completely wiping out your bankroll, and that your bankroll is big enough to absorb the expected variance at the levels you play at without wiping out your bankroll. It's fairly well-grounded, well explained in guides such as http://www.thepokerbank.com/strategy/basic/bankroll-management/, and I don't see it really belonging here. Not that this is a particularly notable article. AntiDeathPill (talk) 03:51, 5 January 2014 (UTC)

Small corrections[edit]

Several minor edits have been made to the martingale (it's a one-way ticket to bankruptcy), poker (card counting exists, but is a very different practice from what's seen in blackjack) and card counting (on countermeasures). Considering adding a section on the Kelly criterion, used by professional gamblers regardless of their game to optimize their particular risk-reward relationship. Hat tip to Octo8 for catching an "if" that should have been an "even if". Must have missed that from making too many small edits at once. Frostbyte (talk) 07:10, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

The only way to make money from gambling[edit]

... is to provide the goods and services 'gamblers (of various types)' actually want.

Or - 'play the designated spending money' once only (so you walk away with whatever money comes your way) or 'play a variety of games until starting money and winnings are used up' and you have enjoyed trying everything. 86.146.99.55 (talk) 14:02, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

Reminds me of an excellent quote by Christopher Hitchens, who wrote (in God Is Not Great):

The mills of the TV preachers continue to grind, and the poor continue to finance the rich, just as if the glittering temples and palaces of Las Vegas had been built by the money of those who won rather than those who lost.

RIP in pepperoni, old timer. We miss ya. Reverend Black Percy (talk) 14:13, 15 March 2017 (UTC)

'Breaking the bank'[edit]

Can refer to the money that the person running the game has - so it is possible to break the bank several times (the croupier etc getting more money). Anna Livia (talk) 18:21, 11 June 2019 (UTC)
