School

School is where you go to get your learn on.
"Schooled" is what you are when you're done being learned on, or when you've been embarrassed or shot down.
Schools are an important part of the American economy, because it's where we practice sitting at a desk doing pointless things for hours at the behest of an authority figure we dislike, which is vital training for all "white collar", and some "blue collar", employment. Schools also give youth an opportunity to develop their social skills (buying drugs, pursuing sexual gratification, concealing firearms, plotting revenge, etc.). The lack of this opportunity is what causes many homeschooled children to wind up as backwards gits. Or maybe that's just from reading Conservapedia.
School is the place "they" send kids to discover what it is that they are least good at, and then spend the next decade or two failing them for it.
