Sappho
Lesbian is a term used to denote female homosexuals. It is derived from the Island of Lesbos, where the noted lesbian poet Sappho lived. Indeed, Sapphic can be a poetic synonym for "lesbian."

Traditionally, lesbians have been forgotten in the general fight for equality by homosexuals. This changed in the 1980s as greater awareness of sexism took hold, along with the general decimation of male homosexuals.[1]

[edit] The old Queen!

Lesbianism was never made illegal in Britain. There is a longstanding myth that this is because when Queen Victoria was shown proposed legislation against lesbianism, she refused to sign it – as she couldn't believe that lesbians existed: “Women do not do such things.”[2]

According to a well-sourced article in Conservapedia, lesbians are between two and three times more likely to be overweight than real women, because lesbians prefer sedate activities such as oral sex softball or tennis, rather than the calorie-burning effort involved in maintaining a major online compendium of human knowledge.

[edit] Dateline July 2008

There are lesbians, and there are Lesbians. Those who are born Lesbians have always been annoyed that those who are born lesbians called themselves lesbians even though the vast majority of lesbians are not Lesbians. So the Lesbians sued the lesbians in Greek court to keep them from using the word "lesbian" to describe themselves. However, the Greek court has decided that even when they are not born Lesbians those who are born lesbians can be called "lesbians"[3][4].

  4. Lesbos locals lose lesbian appeal
