Kamikaze

The term 'kamikaze' (translation: divine wind) came about when the Mongols attempted to invade Japan. The fleet conveying their troops was destroyed by a tsunami just off the coast of Japan, and the Japanese attributed this tsunami to the gods. More recently, the term became infamous for the kamikaze attacks during World War 2, in which Japanese pilots would deliberately ram their planes into American ships, sacrificing their lives in the hope of sinking the ship. In modern times it refers to any suicidal attack.
