Hard question. Well, first of all, my generic view "I don't know enough to have a fixed view" applies, because I'm not a near-east expert, so I could be wrong and change my opinion whenever I encouter better points. But besides that, I would say "It's complicated." How exact do you want it? Short version? Both sides have done bad things, but if I had to pick a side, I would pick the side that doesn't consist of genocidal antisemites. I understand that the whole situation started in an unfortunate way (but way more complicated than the simplified "Jews came out of nowhere and took the land" nonsense - Jews had been living there already and were suffering from antisemitism, long before the founding of modern Israel). I might be wrong here, but at the moment, it looks to me that there is one bully who is (fortunately) really incompetent and too weak to succeed in completely destroying Israel. Of course Israel did bad things and I don't try to apologize it, but that doesn't make both sides equally bad. If I had to chose, I would side with Israel, because while they are far from perfect, they are still a magnitude better than their enemies. They are the best equivalent to a modern, democratic state that there is in this region.--Irian (talk) 20:33, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

Also, do you happen to know Stephan Grigat (the university guy, not the other one) He has written a bunch of books on the subject and tours the German speaking countries with lectures on his books...
