A few ideas for articles[edit]

Feminism[edit]

First Wave - Sufferagates

Second Wave - Equality

Third Wave - Language, internationalism and patriarchy

Bisexuality[edit]

Yes, it exists. No, bisexuals aren't an even 50/50 split.

Many misconceptions.

Gender Identity Disorder[edit]

Transsexuality

Not, as the clearly insane RobS alleges, the new diagnosis for homosexuality. No evidence for sexual orientation/gender identity match.

Research suggests difference in brain structure. Part of hippocampus.

Bailey, et al heavily criticized, research mainly done in gay bars among prostitutes, applied to entire population. Also, John Money.

History. Harry Benjamin, et al

Many FtM's come from lesbian community, more visible recently.

Other Transgender expressions. Crossdressing, genderqueer, genderfucking, etc. Controversy over whether transsexuals or intersexed should be referred to as transgender.

Reparative Therapy[edit]

Modern psychological equivalent of leeches and trepanning. No scientific underpinning.

Amusing to see proponents of unscientific reparative therapy dissing Freud for being unscientific

This might be ripe for a "mirror" type article, or even a point by point refutation of the cp article.--PalMD-Talk 15:08, 22 May 2007 (CDT)
Didn't they dump the separate RT article and just make it a section (endlessly debated) in the Homosexuality article instead? --Kels 15:51, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Propaganda/Culture Wars[edit]

Everything in service of ideology. Art, science, society, even religion must serve ideology. Aspect of fascism, or part of far right, "social conservative" behaviour in general?

Interesting quote found by Robledo from this site.

(I dunno how to use blockquotes, or intented quotes...gotta figure that out too)

"Part of the gay agenda is to promote the idea that there is scientific evidence that proves sexual orientation is genetically predetermined. Why would this be important? If your genes determine homosexuality, then your sexual orientation is determined when you are born. This removes personal accountability but, more importantly, makes God’s Word a mockery. After all, how could homosexuality be a sin if you are born that way? If God said that having freckles were a sin, how could you repent and change your skin type? You couldn’t. As history has shown, true science proves God’s Word. Clearly the “science” that promotes the lies of the Adversary is “junk science.” "

Clearly, all must bow down to the ideology.

Polyamory[edit]

Much more complex than abusive mormons and such.

One of many modern "traditional" relationship alternatives, not uncommon in lesbian community.

Political Correctness[edit]

Origin as joke.

Conservatives use as excuse to say n*gger, etc.

Resistance to being called on one's shit.

ProHomo[edit]

The entire Homosexuality article is ripe for side-by-side refutation.--PalMD-Talk 15:44, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Agreed, although it's a pretty big subject, so we might want some info besides. --Kels 15:48, 22 May 2007 (CDT)

Variable Speed of Light[edit]

To the best of my knowledge, there is only one scientific theory that suggests a much faster speed of light early in the cosmos' history, and that is the VSL theory put forward by University of Toronto professor John Moffat, which suggests a hugely faster speed of light constant in the first few moments following the Big Bang.

Creationists have long speculated on a variable speed of light, and some attempt to use Moffat's theory to give legitimacy to their claims, but ignore the fact that Moffat's concept only applies to the first few moments following the Big Bang, and still requires both the Big Bang itself, often denied by creationists, and an ancient universe following that event. So this does little to solve the Starlight Problem of creationists, and merely underlines the intellectual dishonesty of the position.

Paganism[edit]

Brief history, Gerald Gardner, Alex Saunders, etc

Wide variety of beliefs, generally self-driven

Little, if any connection to Christianity and not opposing their worldview, except where such encourages religious oppression.

Respect for nature, the place of humans in it, reincarnation, etc.

Other things[edit]

Andy quotes[edit]

Andy quotes are usually on his Talk page or the Main Page talk page. Yeah, they're also the ones with the most archives, I know. :P

A quick search gave this here. In there, you get

Conservatives don't believe in a direct democracy. Liberals don't believe in it either. Businessmen don't believe it either. Almost no one really believes in one man, one vote, one unit of influence. User:Conservative largely wrote the entries that rank #3, #5, #6 and #8 in popularity here. Agree with him or not, that is entitled to some deference, don't you think? AmesG, you're great and we welcome your contributions, but do you have any entries that rank so well? Whatever the reason, the results are hard to dispute.

There are tons more (especially in the "Andyality" department), but something came up, so I'll leave it at this for now. To be continued... :P --Sid

I'm going to start going through the archives to see what I can find. Thanks for your help. --Kels 11:43, 23 May 2007 (CDT)

Here's one - I posted it to the Main Page too. "don't read a book to learn, write a book to learn". [1]
