DeSantis in the "Anti-Semites" category[edit]

I noticed that DeSantis was labeled under the "Anti-Semites" category. Is it okay if I ask what DeSantis said that was antisemitic? — Unsigned, by: Jisims95 / talk / contribs

Nothing very concrete. I've removed it. He seems close with Chabad, and signed this.
Florida has a pretty large Jewish population and isn't the kind of place a politician can play footsie with Nazis without suffering for it. Chillpilled (talk) 05:15, 4 April 2023 (UTC)

DeSantis is a war criminal[edit]

I forgot to mention this, and I've seen no one else bring this up in his article, but DeSatan was outed as a torturer in Guantanamo bay via a podcast:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFonj6o0fTI

I'll be adding this section to his article. Feel free to add more info if I missed any. Rational Dude (talk) 20:47, 12 January 2023 (UTC)

Just be cautious with this one. I don't see any other sources for the torture claim so far other than the Eyes Left podcast, or other sites referencing such. Michael PrysnerWikipedia is a socialist activist so "there will be bias". The person making the claim (Mansur Ahmad Saad al-DayfiWikipedia) seems to have been interviewed on other programs (Frontline, Democracy Now) but I don't get a good read on how reliable of a narrator he is.
This doesn't mean, though, that they are wrong. What is documented is that DeSantis did work in Guantanamo Bay around 2006. According to the Miami Herald, the official explanation of what he did was basically a JAGWikipedia type job, who per the article advocated "for the fair and humane treatment of the detainees to ensure the U.S. military complied with the law." Now, this was two years removed from Abu GhraibWikipedia, and there are multiple reports elsewhere significant prison abuse eventsWikipedia at "Gitmo". So it's certainly plausible that someone in DeSantis' position also engaged in the sort of "fair and humane treatment of detainees" documented at Abu Ghraib. However, given that sources with the claim currently are very limited, IMHO it's hard to judge. BobJohnson (talk) 02:01, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
Yeah let’s wait until the situation becomes clearer. Possible is not good enough. Pizza SLICE.gifChef Moosolini’s Ristorante ItalianoMake a Reservation 02:03, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
Okay, but I still think it's good enough proof. Rational Dude (talk) 04:36, 13 January 2023 (UTC)
i strongly dislike desantis as much as the next guy, and i'm still skeptical of these claims. at least if there were other sources to verify it. seems speculative at best. The G (talk) 04:59, 20 January 2023 (UTC)

Okay[edit]

So is the article about DeSantis's war crimes not gonna be on this article until it's confirmed? Rational Dude (talk) 20:54, 1 April 2023 (UTC)

There is now "more meat" on these claims.[1][2][3][4][5] So now we can say that:
A) Mansur Ahmad Saad al-DayfiWikipedia claims that during his time in Guantanamo Bay, DeSantis oversaw beatings and force-feedings.
B) While it is unclear whether or not he participated or even authorized anything (he denied authorizing forced feedings, which is plausible -- ultimately, he was a junior officer and a JAG; the force-feeding decision went all the way up the military ranks), a Washington Post investigation seems to confirm that he was there during one of the more violent years at the facility, and was probably aware of what was going on. One additional detainee (Abdel Aziz) says that he is very certain he spoke to DeSantis about mistreatment claims, of which nothing was done (in fact, Aziz claims that the mistreatment got worse), and was witness to the abuse.
C) What is also *very* notable is that he seemed to retrospectively fully approve of the detention as well as the force-feeding tactics, and he has never expressed any concern for what happened there, even in interviews a decade later. Whether or not the Guantanamo Bay actions rose to the level of "war crime" or "torture" not (it's debated), I do think much of the activity was at minimum ethically disturbing, and to have zero reflection on such is another indicator of DeSantis' racism and fascist/strongman wannabe tendencies. BobJohnson (talk) 20:36, 2 April 2023 (UTC)
The first reference that you cite from WaPo does actually quote DeSantis from an interview that he admitted advising Guantanamo to force-feed, based on a CBS interview.[6] I already put that on the page. Bongolian (talk) 06:33, 4 April 2023 (UTC)
Thank you, I did say that there were some sources that brought this up.Rational Dude (talk) 17:50, 18 April 2023 (UTC)

Frontrunner my ass.[edit]

I don't think Ron DeSantis is the frontrunner, not even close, he's lost half of the florida's congresspeople, AND is losing key endorsements. — Unsigned, by: 2601:281:D880:DED0:C9C8:2DA3:B186:4167 / talk / contribs

The "assuming a 2020 rematch doesn't happen" part after that is key. Chillpilled (talk) 06:03, 21 April 2023 (UTC)
Nothing short of Trump dying will prevent a 2020 rematch, and while I don't think he is really healthy, he is going to live to the 2024 primaries at least. — Unsigned, by: 2601:281:D880:DED0:C9C8:2DA3:B186:4167 / talk / contribs
