Forum:Scientology is probably the most insane "religion" (cult) ever

I do not know if there any others more insane but Scientology is way up there. When I saw the South Park episode "Trapped in the Closet", I did not think that Scientologists actually believe the stuff they mentioned. Well not until I looked into it to find out they actually do believe that non-sense. So if anyone knows of anything more insane, let me know.--Rationalzombie94 (talk) 16:58, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

The thing is, most Scientologists don't know about Xenu. By the time they get that far most Scientologists will have "remembered" past lives on other planets (or similarly implausible recollections) and been convinced they were real, so Xenu is only a short hop from there. Plus there is the sunk cost bias.--SpecialFFrog (talk) 17:06, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Christianity seems pretty fucking insane to me208.29.163.248 (talk) 00:09, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

I do not see the problem with having faith in a higher power but Scientologists are just insane. Again quoting the South Park episode "Trapped in the Closet", Scientology is a scam on a global level.--Rationalzombie94 (talk) 16:32, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

Scientology is mostly insane in the extent they control their members' lives and harrass ex-members. Yes, the Xenu thing is pretty "out there" too, of course, but most members aren't particularly knowledgable about that part of their "religion". 141.134.75.236 (talk) 16:44, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
Plus you have to go through this insane process of living your past traumas again before you enter.DevMac10 (talk) 21:51, 26 May 2016 (UTC)

In a nutshell- Scientology is a coercive cult who plan is to scam people out of money.--Rationalzombie94 (talk) 22:21, 3 June 2015 (UTC)

The thing that makes it really crazy IMO is that most religious texts such as the Bible and Quran were written thousands of years ago and are of unknown (probably multiple) authorship so it's easy to transplant your beliefs into it or think that they are sacred if you're a religious person. Scientology was basically written less than a hundred years ago by Ron Hubbard and we know nearly everything about his life, which includes him not being a prophet or speaking with aliens. I really don't see how Scientology is anymore insane than any other organized religion. I may be painting with a broad brush, but there are things in the Bible and Quran that are equally or more ridiculous than what Scientology teaches. I think Muhammad and L.Ron have a lot in common. They both founded religions for power and money (pretty much the same thing), they both changed their religion to suite their goals at that particular moment, and they were both probably certifiable. The main difference is, Muhammad founded his cult in the bronze age when such BS was not such a hard sell and it has had a lot more time to gain followers. I try not to judge individual Scientologists too harshly for falling into an exploitative cult, because lets face it, many more people do the same with the more established world religions. People just tend to give them a pass because their craziness is older so it is more accepted. I would say Scientology is a little more dangerous to a person's mental health than mainstream Christianity-Lite, but that is just personal opinion. Also, keep in mind, the modern term for "prophet" is mentally ill. L.Ron was very much a "prophet". B4Xiphos (talk) 05:54, 4 April 2016 (UTC)

I think you should look into Maum Meditation, it is still not wide-spreaded like Scientology, but have a more subtle approach. I think cults, meditation centers, and similiar crap should have a disclaimer similiar to cigars that should be forced to be visible on entrance in their centers.. "Warning, if you join this excercise you could end up givin all your money to perfect strangers and radically change any believing you could had". The funny bit about stuff like Scientology is that doing anything against them could be illegal or considered like censorship.. Syllabus (talk) 09:17, 17 May 2016 (UTC)

Polytheists have the most batshit insane theologies. Seriously. What was up with all the greek animal rape? Scientology is fairly a fairly tame (and unoriginal) sci-fi by comparison.81.145.153.190 (talk) 10:29, 17 May 2016 (UTC)
