I leave in about 24 hours, going to be there just under a week. Landing in Frankfort, driving to Aachen, go to a huge party Saturday, then drive to Stuttgart Sunday and spend a couple days there. Any cool suggestions? Anyone live in those areas and interested in getting a drink or something?
- Germany is an awesome place. Haven't been for a while though. I've only stayed in Bonn / Essen and more recently Leipzig. Can't suggest anything around where you're staying, but I'm sure you'll have a good time. CrundyTalk nerdy to me 08:34, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
- Charlemagne's grave is in the Aachen Cathedral if you care for history. In Stuttgart definitely visit the Schlossgarten, it's a beuatiful 600 year old park. There are several art musuems in Stuttgart, the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart is for modern art and the building is as much art as the stuff inside. If you like cars there's also the Mercedes-Benz Museum. There are also a lot of museum with classical art. If you're in Stuttgart over the weekend and care for soccer/football the VfB Stuttgart (a Bundesliga club) might be playing and there are probably some tickets left. - I'm in Stuttgart now. My company provided a tour of Aachen, and they gave us a walk through the cathedral, saw Charlemagne's grave, got to drink from the hot springs... It was nice, although it rained almost the whole time in Aachen (they said it was normal) Really beautiful place. I also got a walk through of Cologne on the way to Aachen, and got to see the Cathedral there, saw the Rhine, and got lunch. Now I have no clue about Stuttgart, as I'm in one of the suburbs. But my German colleagues promised to show us around. The same guy who showed us around Cologne is going to take us shopping tomorrow (my anniversary is Saturday...) but other than that, I don't really know. Always wanted to go to Germany[edit]

- Being half German, and a huge history person, I've always felt the same way. So far it has not disappointed! I got to see some of the remains of a Roman bathhouse in Aachen (it's in a park, not much is currently really displayed, supposed to be great in a few years.. they apparently just found these ruins a few years ago) I got to see (and take a picture of) some of the shell damage from the bombings in WWII. The plaza between the Aachen Cathedral and the City Hall (Where Charlemagne once had his palace) was really kinda' neat. Just knowing that this was the same plaza that Holy Roman Emperors once took to go to church, and most German kings were crowned on this very spot.. Just a really neat feeling. And then while in the plaza in front of the Cologne Cathedral was much the same, and I remembered seeing a picture (it's on Wikipedia) of an American soldier standing next to a disabled Panzer on the exact spot I was standing. I dunno. It's just kind of a cool feeling. I've never even been to Europe before (I got may passport last Wednesday) and it's just a lot to take in. I'm supposed to be back in Stuttgart later this year for 3 weeks, I'll be able to explore more then. Lets see.. I heard an amazing rendition of "When the Saints go marching in" by the waiters at a little Italian joint.. And then turned the corner to hear a couple playing "Teenage Dream".. I hung my head in shame. I've never felt so guilty about being American.. I got to go to a huge party, some 1400 people. That's the "reason" I'm here. It was amazing. :p I heard some great jokes I'm not allowed to repeat here. And that's been about my experience so far. When I get back to the states, I'll see about getting some pics up in a public place to share. Quarudisaster - You can't explain that!
