Wait, why was this made?--il'Dictator Mikal 16:56, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
Even though you drew it yourself, copying and publishing someone else's idea is still copyright infringement - just as it would be if you drew a Disney character. Saying that the copyright owners "know you made this picture" does not excuse this unless you can provide evidence that they have given permission. Although if they don't care about someone making their own drawing why wouldn't they give permission for an official image? Also, as Psy says, WTF? I'm curious, Barille died in like 2005 or something. You've said you are still in highschool, so you contacted him when you were 12 or so? Pardon me for asking, but it does draw out the "dubious" in me, since Il etait une fois serries was shown in the US long before you would have been around. It was never broadcast in the US, and I think you've claimed you are from here. I'm --- curious... --Pink mowse.pngGodotoi, putain, genial, merci 18:27, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

One, there's a little thing called "the Internet". "Once Upon a Time... Man" and "... Life" are sold on DVD in English in Region 1 on www.imavision.com, and the latter has literally all the episodes on YouTube anyway. And, duh, I know that Barille's dead. But the publisher, i.e. Procidis, is alive and well. Two, it's just FAN ART. A lot of people make fan-art for shows I find ridiculous, but that doesn't make it objectively idiotic. If you want to know how I found the series, just ask and ye shall receive. The Heidelberg Kid (talk) 19:40, 15 March 2012 (UTC)

Fan art is copyright infringement--il'Dictator Mikal 19:59, 15 March 2012 (UTC)
So answer me this: why the fuck isn't DeviantArt shut down for copyright infringement? Hell, I've seen fan art for this exact series: available here. And since isgota on YouTube uploaded literally the entire series for free and Procidis didn't take it down, I think it's okay. The Heidelberg Kid (talk)
Lots of people break the speed limit, doesnt mean its still ok to do it. --il'Dictator Mikal 01:18, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
Listen. Fanfiction is very popular on the Internet. I would expect www.fanfiction.com to get shut down if it were illegal. The website maintains a list of people who don't want their characters in fanfiction, e.g. Archie. Whenever I make fanart for this series, I contact Procidis to tell them about it. If they don't want me to make fanart, all they need to do is say "please don't make fanart" and I'll stop. The Heidelberg Kid (talk) 16:01, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
So post your picture at fanfiction.com or deviantart. The point is not whether other people get away with it because the copyright owners don't know or can't be bothered, but whether it is the right thing to do (and BTW, don't expect consistency on this); because of the endless copyvios at CP, RationalWiki seems to have taken a stand on this issue. I feel that copyright is bad: it should be copyleft (Creative Commons is great) or public domain. Information wants to be free! I feel it's simply the right thing to do to create fan-art and show it to the original makers. It's not like I'm selling prints of this. Check out [[1]]. The fact one of its founders created a feature-length film (Sita Sings the Blues) and released it under copyleft proves that people don't need a financial motive to create. Check out the "learn" tab. And I just posted it here because AFAIK, FF doesn't do images, and I don't have a deviant account. So I just uploaded it here, because I want to and server space isn't an issue. "I dont have a deviant account"... then make one?--il'Dictator Mikal 00:36, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
Second to stupidity, the common cold running up, the most prevalent disease in our world may be laziness. It's funny how in the time I take typing this, I could've set up an account. But, what will you do? BTW, check out Il Etait une Fois... La Vie. C'est magnifique! The Heidelberg Kid (talk) 00:46, 17 March 2012 (UTC)

"I feel that copyright is bad: it should be copyleft..." Great. Treat your own work that way. Your feelings don't entitle you to walk all over other peoples' rights. P-Foster Talk ""Santorum is the cream rising to the top."" 01:00, 17 March 2012 (UTC)
