Edwin Powell Hubble, born on November 20, 1889, died on September 28, 1953, was an American astronomer, credited with the discovery of Hubble's Law along with Milton L. Humason.

Hubble's Law states that a galaxy's recessional velocity is directly proportional to its distance, multiplied by Hubble's Constant, Ho. Astronomers disagree as to the exact figure for Ho, but it is in the ballpark of 70 km/sec per megaparsec.

The inverse of Hubble's Constant gives the age of the universe. Hubble's Law, therefore, was one of the earliest discoveries supporting the Big Bang.
