Bigot

A bigot is one who holds unjustifiable prejudices against groups of people, without knowing them personally.

Common targets of bigotry are people of particular races, genders, or sexual orientations.

Bigotry in its various shades is often exploited by politicians, as in Richard Nixon's "Southern Strategy", and Karl Rove's strategic approach to forming a "permanent Republican majority".

[edit] Historical usage

Interestingly, in the past, bigot meant a religious hypocrite, especially a woman.
