Category talk:Extreme wingnuttery

"This category contains scams and delusions peculiar to those of a right wing religious zealot/fascist/anarcho-libertarian/racist bent."

Should this category also include extreme wingnuttery of the left wing variety? I'm thinking here of groups like the Gino Perente/National Labor Federation group and the Symbionese Liberation Army, both of which would certainly qualify and fall within this site's mission of analyzing and refuting the full range of crank ideas. For that matter the North Korean government too. Secret Squirrel 06:35, 26 December 2007 (EST)

Sounds fair for the most part, though I'd put them under Category:Extreme moonbattery. EVDebs 14:48, 26 December 2007 (EST)
That'll work, thanks. Secret Squirrel 21:46, 27 December 2007 (EST)

Splitting sections[edit]

I think that Extreme Wingnuttery should be split between the right-wing fundamentalism/authoritarianism sections (keeping the same name) and for libertarian/anarcho-capitalist/tax protester/etc. delusions it should be in a category like 'lassiez-faire silliness' or some such. I think it's slightly unfair for things like Gambolonism or the Townsend Plan to be tainted with crap like To Train Up A Child even though they both fall into the general category of 'right-wing stupidity'. --Dr. Swordopolis (talk) 14:56, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

I'm wondering if it might be an idea to start an "extreme wingnuts" category for individuals, so this category can be left to concepts and organisations. That's make it less bloated. Balaam (talk) 18:29, 8 March 2013 (UTC)
In order to make the page less bloated I think we should add the category "wingnuts", but there might be an issue if we lump a moron like Rand Paul with Neo-Nazis. That might be seen as invoking Godwin's Law. ClothCoat (talk) 22:00, 25 November 2013 (UTC)

I'm doing it[edit]

I'm splitting the section into "Libertarian wingnuttery" and "Authoritarian wingnuttery" to make it less bloated and more accurate say something now or forever hold your piece. ClothCoat (talk) 23:42, 1 June 2015 (UTC)

Ok so I'm going to move a lot of pages to Libertarian wingnuttery at first. Some specific pages (though not many) will be under both categories, like how some pages are currently under extreme wingnuttery and extreme moonbattery. I know people like to say "who cares about categories" but it actually does say a lot about us as a wiki to other people. The fact we just barely didn't add Noam Chomsky under Extreme moonbattery is noted by our tvtropes page because to other people it's basically our way of saying "this is where we draw the line between reasonable politics and unreasonable ones, this is as far as you can push it". Also it might look bad if we lump in vulgar libertarians with neo-nazis. ClothCoat (talk) 23:58, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
(EC) The category is "bloated" because it's functionally meaningless and gets compulsively added to dozens of pages on unrelated subjects. It's putting Mel Gibson & Mary Whitehouse in the same bag as Boko Haram & the Taliban, for example. The effort you spend in changing the category tags on 600 pages to another arbitrary variation of the same thing could be better spent in removing this useless category altogether, along with the ridiculous "moonbats" one. I don't know... a lot of people seem to like clicking through both categories as a means of just reading about far-right and far-left extremism and seeing what they're up to. I do think we should keep a category for far-right and far-left organizations/people, just in a more helpful and organized fashion, and like you said I'm not sure of having Mel Gibson under either is that important. Well...[edit]

Those were all the "obvious" libertarians removed, though their may be a few debateable ones floating around. I suppose it's "Horrific Wingnuttery" next for ideologies/organzaitions that openly promote mass murder/brainswashing/dictatorships as a means of establishing their world. ClothCoat (talk) 02:27, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

All right I cut about half of it into the new categories, this page needs to be renamed to "Conservative wingnuttery" (for wingnuts that are basically offshoots and extreme versions of existing conservative movements such as nearly all of the people left in category) and any remaning "stragglers" here that belong under either Authoritarian/Libertarian wingnuttery moved there. I'll try to do it myself if I have the time tommorow or wendesday if no one else wants to do it. ClothCoat (talk) 08:29, 2 June 2015 (UTC)

Measurements[edit]

How does one measure the extent of the wingnuttery - measuring the length of the screw/the number of turns? 82.44.143.26 (talk) 18:08, 23 February 2017 (UTC)
