Fair use rationale for use in the article Modern art and architecture

Even though the media Jackson pollock.jpg is copyrighted and not released under a free license, I, Smerdis of Tlön, feel it is covered by fair use for at least one of the following reasons:

  • No free alternative exists.
  • The image is of significantly lower resolution than the original (copies made from it will be of inferior quality).
  • Image is from the US National Gallery of Art, Jackson Pollock, Number 1, 1950 (Lavender Mist),1950. The sort of thing needed to evaluate Pollock's painting, and can't be replaced except by similar drip paintings from Pollock or his contemporaries.
  • The placement in a RationalWiki article is being used for informational purposes only, and its use is not believed to detract from the original copyrighted media in any way.
  • A free alternative may not exist now, but in the event of a free alternative being located for the article "Modern art and architecture" in the future, this file should be deleted as soon as possible.
