BCE stands for Before (the) Common Era. BCE is to B.C. what CE is to A.D. It means the years counted backwards from 0, starting from an arbitary point that just so happens, for convieniences sake, to coincide with the BC/AD boundary.

Andrew Schlafly does not like it at all when you use BCE and CE (as it "denies historical recognition" or somesuch bollocks). It is one of the main reasons why he founded Conservapedia.
