Congratulations to all who have worked hard to make this community almost completely unusable now. That's not just the resident troll, indeed, that has relatively little to do with it. It's those who have humoured, flamed and baited the thing far longer than was ever necessary - could you resist posting and continuing it? No. Could you ignore it? No. Could you keeping posting and baiting and then when it gets out of hand try to beg everyone to ignore it even though you know fine well it's too late? Yes, evidentally.
But then, I'm hardly surprised. Nothing gets achieved here because people are just clinging to this sense that the site was still the same small piss-hole that it was two years ago. It needed change, it needed structure, it needed shit to get done, and it just never happened. Whenever someone did do something, what the hell did they get for it? Nx gets lambasted for not running every tiny little change to the site's scripts and css by the entire mob. New authors get smacked across the head because their first draft of an article wasn't on par with articles that have had hundreds of edits. People who try to do something just get accused of being lame, rather than given the constructive support they need to better themselves and spread the message that they want to.
Recent changes shows the place is pretty much in a complete state; rather than telling me what articles have been recently edited, it's mostly telling me who people want banned, or who is a cunt or whatever. It's pretty much a 4Chan wannabe now, perhaps I cared a bit too much or had high expectations - here was a site that wanted to tackle important issues that arise as intentional ignorance, fear and irrationality spread. But that's hardly the goal anymore, regardless of how many people try to say that it's still the case. To me, it seems that having a rational mind, wanting to refute pseudoscience, wanting to examine things logically, coherently, fully and with integrity has to take a back seat to being an abraisive arsehole. Maybe if I want to come back and get involved I should create a sockpuppet that bursts into the first talk page I see and starts calling everyone a cockmuncher, I'm pretty sure that'd get more responses than adding some interesting research, formatting references, making templates or whatever I'd like to think was productive activity. Don't think that's just whining because of a lack of a pat on the back, that's not the case, it's more that the group of editors that have gathered here seem to have begun, as a collective entity, to reward being a worthless arsewipe and passively punish the intelligence, rationality and writing ability that made it grow so well at the start of its life.
It was fun while it lasted, but as no one is interested in the actual mission of the site (although almost everyone wants to question the "mission" value of plenty of articles) I may as well piss off and do something more productive.
