{{q|With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.|Steven Weinberg}}<br>

{{q|It will yet be the proud boast of women that they never contributed a line to the Bible.|George W. Foote}}<br>

{{q|You do not need the Bible to justify love, but no better tool has been invented to justify hate.|Richard A. Weatherwax}}<br>

{{q|Of all religions the Christian is without doubt the one which should inspire tolerance most, although up to now the Christians have been the most intolerant of all men.|Voltaire}}<br>

{{q|A lie is a lie even if everyone believes it. The truth is the truth even if nobody believes it.|David Stevens}}<br>

{{q|Religion does three things quite effectively: Divides people, Controls people, Deludes people.|Carlespie Mary Alice McKinney}}<br>

{{q|I refuse to believe in a god who is the primary cause of conflict in the world, preaches racism, sexism, homophobia, and ignorance, and then sends me to hell if I’m ‘bad’.|Mike Fuhrman}}<br>

{{q|Speak only if it improves upon the silence.|Mohandas Gandhi}}<br>

{{q|There are many causes I would die for. There is not a single cause I would kill for.|Mohandas Gandhhi}}<br>

{{q|I do not believe that any type of religion should ever be introduced into the public schools of the United States.|Thomas Edison}}<br>

{{q|If one were to take the bible seriously one would go mad. But to take the bible seriously, one must be already mad.|Aleister Crowley}}<br>

{{q|Mythology is what we call someone else’s religion.|Joseph Campbell}}<br>

{{q|Invisible Pink Unicorns are beings of awesome mystical power. We know this because they manage to be invisible and pink at the same time. Like all religions, the Faith of the Invisible Pink Unicorns is based upon both logic and faith. We have faith that they are pink; we logically know that they are invisible because we can’t see them.|Steve Eley}}<br>

{{q|I have examined all of the known superstitions of the world and I do not find in our superstitions of Christianity one redeeming feature. They are all founded on fables and mythology. Christianity has made one-half the world fools and the other half hypocrites.|Thomas Jefferson}}<br>

If something is in me which can be called religious, then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it.|Albert Einstein}}<br>

{{cquote|  '''  . . . imagine a puddle waking up one morning and thinking, ‘This is an interesting world I find myself in’an interesting hole I find myself in’fits me rather neatly, doesn’t it? In fact it fits me staggeringly well, must have been made to have me in it!’ This is such a powerful idea that as the sun rises in the sky and the air heats up and as, gradually, the puddle gets smaller and smaller, it’s still frantically hanging on to the notion that everything’s going to be alright, because this world was meant to have him in it, was built to have him in it; so the moment he disappears catches him rather by surprise. I think this may be something we need to be on the watch out for.'''|||From a Speech given by Adams at Digital Biota 2, Cambridge, UK, 1998. Later quoted in Richard Dawkin’s Eulogy for Douglas Adams.}}

Arrived home after holiday to go for outpatient appt this AM - all OK.

Fish in fishpond ALL DEAD!

Catsitter had left uneaten catfood in kitchen - result: FLIES everywhere

Going away again (NOT! damnit)

I hate holidays!

Got permission for "moderate" amount of alcohol (2 units/day![[Image:Ohmy.gif]]) & orders to exercise!

Home again, home again. Well, that was like war - long periods of boredom leavened by short bursts of terror.

I'm extending my non-wikiing for a while to sort my head out. I've a book to finish re-re-ren-rewriting & friends who've been neglected. Off to Altrincham (not Manchester, silly ML) this evening - probably back Monday.

Raaaather nice person bought me a new lens (about £170 [$300+] on the web!!!!) so I'm going a bit silly tomorrow Wheeeeee!! 18:02, 21 September 2008 (EDT)

Weather Cold, Dull & Damp - camera in bag. 08:46, 22 September 2008 (EDT)

Played with new telephoto lens today & yesterday - b good. Grapes on grapevine rather tasty. Sprayed #1 cat (Domino) with flea killer - she was literally frothing @ the mouth shortly after! #2 cat (Gingernuts) (you'd know why the name if you saw him walking away with his tail up!) won't let me near him with ''anything'' in my hand after seeing the spraying of Domino.

Don't know why RA's taken against Jeeves so. It's a change not to be the atheist arch-villain though. I don't actually think out & out atheists are in anything like a majority on here - if you include agnostics & lapsed religiousers then <s>perhaps</s> probably.

Oh - the new lens also does macro - pretty flower pics are blooming. 17:37, 25 September 2008 (EDT)

Think I'm gonna stop editing when H is on - he's just so irascible and occasionally rude & unthinking that he makes me squirm sometimes. I ought to be doing my thing anyhow!

''One evening in October, when I was far from sober<br>

:''To keep my feet from wandering I tried,<br>

''My poor legs were all a-flutter, so I lay down in the gutter<br>

:''And a pig came up and lay down by my side.<br>

''We sang,"Never mind the weather just as long as we're together"<br>

:''Till a lady passing by was heard to say,<br>

''"You can tell a man who boozes by the company he chooses"<br>

Those were the days, my friend!

:Reminds me of the time in 1999, when I was returning from my local hostelry in, shall we say, a merry mood. On turning in at my gateway, a dark and unlit place, I tumbled arse over tit over something on the step. Feeling little pain, you don't when you are under the influence, I looked around and discovered that my involuntary assailant was an hedgehog! In the still of the night some few hours later, I awoke in agony, I lasted until about 9 am and then phoned a friend who kindly took me to casualty. Turned out I'd smashed my shoulder & collar bone into little pieces. Result: 4 weeks strapped up, using my left hand for everything. But, the outpatient's clinic was where I met "Marghanita", so every cloud has a ...

{{cquote|I first met her when she asked to join the trad band,<br />I encouraged her which may seem strange to you,<br />She had no legs or hips but you should have seen those lips<br />after playing trombone for a week or two.<br /><br />Then one day I got back home and found a message<br />She carved it in my banjo with a knife<br />it said I feel insecure and I'm tired of being poor<br />and I hear Bob Dylan's looking for a wife.<br /><br />That's why my baby's become a folk singer<br />I can't seem to find her no how<br />well she sings of being free, but I wish it weren't from me<br />oh there ain't no use in looking for her now.}}

Outpatients today: after a bad night. 90 minutes waiting, 5 minutes with doc, another 90 minutes waiting, 5 minutes with other doc, another 90 minutes waiting 5 minutes being tested, having samples taken. Rotten day!
