I'm starting to think teh Assfly has deep-seated issues when it comes to members of the medical fraternity (Maybe he's found out they threw away the wrong piece when he was circumcised). Poor old Dr CB has been booted again, along with loads of liberal mockery, including calling him "Dr" CB [1] And my good friend Smeg Ed, blocks JameyC for ever for asking the question "How do we know he's not a doctor?" I'm thinking Andy knows that real doctors on his site will not only call into question his medical "expertise" but also lead to the fixing of most of his blatant inaccurate statments (IE, Abortion causes breast cancer, instant death and low gas milage... MSN and evolution

I have no idea what they're talking about on Conservapedia with their MSN rankings for their evolution article. 'Evolution' and 'Theory of Evolution' didn't bring CP up in the top 30 results. Czolgolz 11:24, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

That was an interesting test; I have never used MSN search before, and I don't think I have ever searched on any other engine for "evolution" or "theory of evolution". So my results weren't biased by previous searches for the subjects. Results? For "evolution" I gave up looking after page 16 (ie 160 results) _ CP didn't appear at all, however Uncyclopedia was #16 and South Park (! lol) #28. Interesting: I followed Kendoll's provided links, and got the same results as him. Remember, "theory of evolution" has to be in quotes, that's what he's been pumping. (ec) I, too, have never used MSN before. I followed the link Ken provided (which did not have quotes around the search terms) and found this Conservapedia debate ranked at #132. Our article on "Theistic evolution" was ranked at #950. The actual Conservapedia article wasn't in the top 1000 results. I began to wonder if the Conservapedia article was even listed, so I added "conservapedia" to the search string, and I finally found it. Altering the search again, putting "Theory of evolution" in quotes and removing "conservapedia," brought Conservapedia up to #5. I wondered if adding the term "conservapedia" affected my later results. Sure enough, another search for "theory of evolution" (without the quotes) suddenly brought their article up to #3. What I find most humorous about all of this (despite the fact that Ken thinks people actually go to CP for serious information) is that he's measuring his search engine success based on his own search terms. For example, (I don't have time to actually look this up, so I'll bust out my Schlafly stats) "theory of evolution" is only searched for 1% as often as "evolution." However, a search for "evolution" wouldn't even put CP's article in the top million. You can see similar things with "young earth creationism" and "creation." So as long as I'm searching for exactly what Kenservative would search for I'll see something similar to what he sees; if I go with a more conventional, run-of-the-mill search term I'll never wind up on CP. I mean, excepting students who need research sources (which I hope to god no teacher accepts Conservapedia as) or someone looking for som cheap internet lulz... who's gonna do a search. Well, someone added it, and it made me chuckle, but then I had to remembered that technically, this doesn't make Ed a liberal. Why? Because Liberal Style doesn't say that only liberals use these things, just like it doesn't say that all liberals use them (and because Andy didn't call him a liberal yet, and we all know that Andy alone is The Decider when it comes to identifying/branding people as liberals). In fact, all these lists are practically worthless because they don't really say anything concrete: "Some liberals sometimes use these things, and even though some conservatives also sometimes use them, let's not mention them and instead pretend that this is characteristic only for liberals." What does it all mean?

OK, sorry if this is the wrong place...

I have already argued on here that Conservapedia shouldn't be held to be representative of conservative or Christian views. Rather it's a fringe that is useful in highlighting certain trends within these movements. Indeed one could argue that groups and websites like CP serve a valuable purpose in this regard, much like extremist political parties do.

Some here disagree with this view and maintain that CP is representative of Christian conservatism, at least in the US.

So, where do we see whatever CP does represent going? Is it simply like every other extreme blog out there using the pervasiveness of the Internet to create a lot of heat but little substance and preach to the choir? Or is it indicative of a groundswell of populist opinion and religious fundamentalism that is here to stay? Last hurrah or mainstream? Ajkgordon 04:46, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

I basically agree with you. Conservapedia is pretty far from anything that I could recognize as conservative. If anything, it's rather reactionary with a fair bit of crypto-fascism thrown in. As for whether it's Christian, I don't really like putting myself up as a judge of other people's beliefs. As such, I accept that most of the people involved at least self-identify as Christians, even if it's not a form of Christianity that I can relate to or find appealing at all.

In any case, CP is certainly not representative of anything other than the views of the fringe community from which it springs. Also, the whole purpose of the site is not to engage in a dialogue with opponents, but rather to assert the superiority of a certain worldview. As such, it will be attractive to the very small minority who agree with that worldview, but no one else.

As an aside, one could consider whether RW doesn't suffer from the exact same problem, existing in a sort of unwholesome "mirror image relationship" with CP - but that's probably another discussion. --AKjeldsen^Godspeed! 06:08, 30 April 2008 (EDT) _{I worry that I seem to have grown way too fond of the word "unwholesome" of late.}

CP is a "swamp draining" "land developer" in that they boldly tread into dark and unknown brackish waters drain the thing and have s slew of new houses in a few years.

While I knew about YEC-types roaming the Earth before CP I had never actually met one, let alone talked with one. So while the idea is still wacky, and the holders of that idea hold it with delusional effectiveness I can still see them as sane rational people (otherwise).

The upshot is that what I used to consider delusional people (theistic evolutionists) have become moer "mainstream" and acceptable.

Who's Who

I see the quote about missionaries' kids and Who's Who has been trotted out again. What they fail to see is that Who's Who In Who's Who (their source) has no connection with the real Who's Who, and is a subjective collection probably trawled from numerous vanity publications. The users at Rational Wiki could for example publish their own Who's Who (the name is in the public domain), add only the atheists and then truthfully state that not a single Christian is in Who's Who. Even if you accept the second-rate US (Marquis) versions, looking at the list here it seems that manipulation of criteria (and subsequent data) is pretty simple. I assume Andy will simply support whatever his henchmen want to support, but you'd have to imagine Andy, TK and Kinky aren't exactly over impressed with Moonieism. I think he meant "Internets'". And I find it even more scary that he mentions he's been a member his entire adult life, meaning he chose to join. Of course, it could be that he joined when he was a young, impressionable, and easily-swayed "new adult," and now he's just too crotchety and egotistical to even consider that he might have actually just been stupid. I admit I wasn't surprised by Poor reverting and blocking - it reinforces what I'd read in one of the Messianic discussion forum posts by Yonatan/Fox, and gives a little more credence to his conspiracy theories about conservapedia and the moonies.
