Gobsmacked
I'm starting to think teh Assfly has deep-seated issues when it comes to members of the medical fraternity (Maybe he's found out they threw away the wrong piece when he was circumcised). Poor old Dr CB has been booted again, along with loads of liberal mockery, including calling him "Dr" CB [1] And my good friend Smeg Ed, blocks JameyC for ever for asking the question "How do we know he's not a doctor?" Seriously, these guys (and those two in particular) are getting out of hand. I feel the need to scream. Psygremlin 19:26, 27 April 2008 (EDT)
- JameyC also got blocked for creating "Schlafly Style", in which he claimed all members of the family liked hanging out with children, talked funny, etc. --Kels 20:07, 27 April 2008 (EDT)

- No no no... well, it might have been Pal... the Doctor who was blocked for trying to fix Andy's nonsense about Abortions and Breast Cancer... I didn't think it was Pal, but it may have been. - Isn't WeirdEdMoon the leading exponent of compulsive profanities on CP? And not just in the contemporary sense of the word but also with regard to the blasphemous and sacriligious, bearing in mind Ed worships an octogenarian Korean adulterer who claims to be G-d Himself, crowned himself Emperor of the Universe, and stated that his dead son Heung Jin Moon had done such a great job in "Heaven" that Jesus Christ had "stepped down" and handed over His heavenly rule to him... Makes you wonder if CP isn't actually just another one of the thousand or so Unification Church "fronts" they are using to take over the right. Who funds CP, anyway? Fox 13:58, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
MSN and evolution
I have no idea what they're talking about on Conservapedia with their MSN rankings for their evolution article. 'Evolution' and 'Theory of Evolution' didn't bring CP up in the top 30 results. Czolgolz 11:24, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- That was an interesting test; I have never used MSN search before, and I don't think I have ever searched on any other engine for "evolution" or "theory of evolution". So my results weren't biased by previous searches for the subjects. Results? For "evolution" I gave up looking after page 16 (ie 160 results) _ CP didn't appear at all, however Uncyclopedia was #16 and South Park (! lol) #28. For "theory of evolution", I gave up after page 10 (100 results) - again, no CP result at all. Fox 11:40, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah the evolution ones didn't show up anywhere for me. You'd think that Conservapedia would love Bill Gates - he's the picture of capitalism.Shangrala 11:45, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- Oh noes. The Gates Foundation gives money to provide atheist vaccines and liberal malaria research for those poor little black folks in Africa rather than building churches. Also they persuaded Warren Buffet to give away most of his money when he dies rather than leaving it to his family. Not Conservative values at all. GenghisOur ignorance is God; what we know is science. 12:38, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- Yeah the evolution ones didn't show up anywhere for me. You'd think that Conservapedia would love Bill Gates - he's the picture of capitalism.Shangrala 11:45, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- Interesting: I followed Kendoll's provided links, and got the same results as him. Remember, "theory of evolution" has to be in quotes, that's what he's been pumping. I wonder if his links contained any cues that honor MSN's observation that the CP article is the one he sweatily clicks on 20 times a day? human 12:51, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- (ec) I, too, have never used MSN before. I followed the link Ken provided (which did not have quotes around the search terms) and found this Conservapedia debate ranked at #132. Our article on "Theistic evolution" was ranked at #950. The actual Conservapedia article wasn't in the top 1000 results. I began to wonder if the Conservapedia article was even listed, so I added "conservapedia" to the search string, and I finally found it. Altering the search again, putting "Theory of evolution" in quotes and removing "conservapedia," brought Conservapedia up to #5. I wondered if adding the term "conservapedia" affected my later results. Sure enough, another search for "theory of evolution" (without the quotes) suddenly brought their article up to #3. So, there you have it. It seems that the only people who will see the Conservapedia article ranked third are the people who've already searched for it. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 13:00, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
What I find most humorous about all of this (despite the fact that Ken thinks people actually go to CP for serious information) is that he's measuring his search engine success based on his own search terms. For example, (I don't have time to actually look this up, so I'll bust out my Schlafly stats) "theory of evolution" is only searched for 1% as often as "evolution." However, a search for "evolution" wouldn't even put CP's article in the top million. You can see similar things with "young earth creationism" and "creation." So as long as I'm searching for exactly what Kenservative would search for I'll see something similar to what he sees; if I go with a more conventional, run-of-the-mill search term I'll never wind up on CP. Sandman 13:17, 28 April 2008 (EDT)
- In this day and age, how many people really use major search engines for something like Evolution anyway? I mean, excepting students who need research sources (which I hope to god no teacher accepts Conservapedia as) or someone looking for som cheap internet lulz... who's gonna do a search. I know I would just look right at Wikipedia to get an overview (assuming I didn't know something about it already) and move on from there. "What does Marcellus Wallace look like?" (re: Ed Poor)

Jules: Describe what Marcellus Wallace looks like!
Brett: What, I-?

Brett: He's b-b-black...
Jules: Go on.
Brett: He's bald...
Jules: Does he look like a b*tch?
Brett: What?
[Jules shoots Brett in shoulder]
Jules: DOES HE LOOK LIKE A B*TCH?
Brett: No!
After seeing Ed slapping, warning and blocking users left and right for potentially getting stuff wrong or for pointing out errors, I really had to think of the above scene from Pulp Fiction. Especially the part where he went all "You are not allowed to comment on ANYTHING until you posted that explicit suggestion", followed by the 1-week block for making a single, unrelated user talk page post. --Sid 15:58, 28 April 2008 (EDT)

- Well, someone added it, and it made me chuckle, but then I had to remembered that technically, this doesn't make Ed a liberal. Why? Because Liberal Style doesn't say that only liberals use these things, just like it doesn't say that all liberals use them (and because Andy didn't call him a liberal yet, and we all know that Andy alone is The Decider when it comes to identifying/branding people as liberals). In fact, all these lists are practically worthless because they don't really say anything concrete: "Some liberals sometimes use these things, and even though some conservatives also sometimes use them, let's not mention them and instead pretend that this is characteristic only for liberals." It's just like saying that eating and breathing are Liberal Style. Or disagreeing. Or not being a radical YECist. --Sid 06:41, 29 April 2008 (EDT)

What does it all mean?
OK, sorry if this is the wrong place...
I have already argued on here that Conservapedia shouldn't be held to be representative of conservative or Christian views. Rather it's a fringe that is useful in highlighting certain trends within these movements. Indeed one could argue that groups and websites like CP serve a valuable purpose in this regard, much like extremist political parties do.
Some here disagree with this view and maintain that CP is representative of Christian conservatism, at least in the US.
So, where do we see whatever CP does represent going? Is it simply like every other extreme blog out there using the pervasiveness of the Internet to create a lot of heat but little substance and preach to the choir? Or is it indicative of a groundswell of populist opinion and religious fundamentalism that is here to stay? Last hurrah or mainstream? Ajkgordon 04:46, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- I basically agree with you. Conservapedia is pretty far from anything that I could recognize as conservative. If anything, it's rather reactionary with a fair bit of crypto-fascism thrown in. As for whether it's Christian, I don't really like putting myself up as a judge of other people's beliefs. As such, I accept that most of the people involved at least self-identify as Christians, even if it's not a form of Christianity that I can relate to or find appealing at all.
- In any case, CP is certainly not representative of anything other than the views of the fringe community from which it springs. Also, the whole purpose of the site is not to engage in a dialogue with opponents, but rather to assert the superiority of a certain worldview. As such, it will be attractive to the very small minority who agree with that worldview, but no one else.
- As an aside, one could consider whether RW doesn't suffer from the exact same problem, existing in a sort of unwholesome "mirror image relationship" with CP - but that's probably another discussion. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 06:08, 30 April 2008 (EDT) I worry that I seem to have grown way too fond of the word "unwholesome" of late.
- They are, and will remain, a vocal minority. It will continue to run for some time, I don't doubt. However, I believe it will eventually be purchased by the Unification Church. (This was actually a much longer comment, but ... lashon hara :( Oh well.) Fox 06:17, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- CP is a "swamp draining" "land developer" in that they boldly tread into dark and unknown brackish waters drain the thing and have s slew of new houses in a few years.
- While I knew about YEC-types roaming the Earth before CP I had never actually met one, let alone talked with one. So while the idea is still wacky, and the holders of that idea hold it with delusional effectiveness I can still see them as sane rational people (otherwise).
- The upshot is that what I used to consider delusional people (theistic evolutionists) have become moer "mainstream" and acceptable.
- We see the same in REAL®LIFE; no-one dreams of taking a drag queen to grandma's birthday party but your gay "friend", that's just fine, cause, he's so, normal, after all. CЯacke® 09:16, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- Re: CP & conservatism in the US - they really do represent a sort of inverted "tip of the iceberg" - the GOP has co-opted the religious and social conservative movement known generally as the "religious right" as part of their base, and CP strongly represents the extremism that is part of each of that group's pet issues. While many in the "movement" may be more moderate, they are swayed and influenced by direct and subtle uses of the positions CP takes - YEC may seem extreme and crazy, but the rhetoric they use snares many much more moderate faithful into voting their way. Look at the school board games (like the one that ended up as Dover v. Kitzmiller), the "gag rule" on health care providers getting gov't funds, things like "Expelled" which are promoted to the moderate as just being "pro faith"... etc etc. CP represents what the leaders of these movements really want. Keep in mind that 15% or so of PA GOP voters actually went out and voted for Mike Huckabee, against the already confirmed nominee-to-be (McCrazy).
- This is not about "conservatism" in general, or worldwide, it is about a mostly US-centric movement called more rightly "radical conservatism". human 13:57, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- That's just Liebrul-speak for Neo-Nazi, right? Fox 16:49, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- Heh, no. In the broadest terms, "conservatism" resists change (which is a good force to have in politics). "Radical conservatives" have an agenda (sometimes reactionary or backwards-looking, sometimes "new" ideas they want to become "law") and want to see changes made rapidly to match their vision. Technically it's an oxymoron, but it's what they are. (as far as "change", the spectrum sort of goes conservative - moderate - liberal - radical). Just my perspective seen from here in the good ole USA. human 17:04, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

(outdent) Not wishing to invoke Godwin, there is a movement for a very authorian worldview with some odd ideas for the Jewish people and Israel. Not sure exactly where you (fox) fall on this but look into Christian Zionism (ever realize that there is a religious group that wants Israel to go to war to trigger the rapture?). Who's Who
I see the quote about missionaries' kids and Who's Who has been trotted out again. What they fail to see is that Who's Who In Who's Who (their source) has no connection with the real Who's Who, and is a subjective collection probably trawled from numerous vanity publications. The users at Rational Wiki could for example publish their own Who's Who (the name is in the public domain), add only the atheists and then truthfully state that not a single Christian is in Who's Who. Even if you accept the second-rate US (Marquis) versions, looking at the list here it seems that manipulation of criteria (and subsequent data) is pretty simple. And that list doesn't include vanity publications. Fox 07:14, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- I see, for example, that there is a publication, Who's Who in Religion, listing "church officials, clergy, religious educators, and lay leaders". I'm sure children of missionaries have a very disproportionate number of entries in there compared to children of orthodontists... Fox 07:29, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- Don't you have to pay to be in Who's Who anyways? I seem to remember getting something way back in HS saying I could get my name in one if I paid a fee. The real title should be Who's Who with $20. Jrssr5 09:17, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- Not in the real Who's Who - that's by editor's discretion, which is probably why it's more or less the only one being taken seriously. --AKjeldsenGodspeed! 09:46, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- For Who's Who Among American High School Students, you don't have to pay to be listed, but you do have to consent to it. Still, it's widely considered a scam, designed to get parents to buy the book (which, in itself, is designed like a multi-volume phonebook) to see their kid's name. --Arcan ¡ollǝɥ 16:19, 30 April 2008 (EDT)
- As with all publishing, the key element is "which way does the money flow?". The "real" Who's Who is published in order to be sold to reference libraries, and they buy it. Many of the rip offs are published to be sold to the "includants". The tip-off is when the "consent" form is mostly an "order" form. human 17:07, 30 April 2008 (EDT)

Apparently he deleted more two-line entries regarding moonie affiliations, stating they were "plagiarised" from various sites. Funny how his idea of plagiarism allows TK to word-for-word copy/paste without this qualifying as plagiarism, but articles about moonies that are derived from a page elsewhere suddenly become the real-deal. I also noted that he's quite proud of the fact that moonies hate Jews - an edit I made a while back, which he's happy to gloat over by retaining. Fox 04:47, 1 May 2008 (EDT)
