Science and Math Defeated is one of the most idiotic blogs on the internet. It is run and contributed to by an individual known as "notedscholar", which is unusual as he is both hardly notable and barely scholarly.
It's safe to say that the only thing being defeated here is the pretense that notedscholar or anyone who thinks he's credible has an IQ score higher than 75 obtained a high school diploma paid any attention whatsoever to a single math or science lesson in their lives.[citation NOT needed] The blog became inactive in June 2019, with the last post being about fish breathing in water.[1] A post was made in 2023 "explainng" the absence.[2]

Among their 100% organic, chemical-free stupidity are:
- IBM is attempting to "Take over the sky", and "Unlike Google, IBM does not have a good human rights record."[3]
- That your brain is your entire body[4]
- Whales, dolphins and frogs are fish[note 1] and are the only ones that can't breathe underwater[1]
and let's not forget kook ideas about:
- 0.9999…. = 1[5]
- Probability[6]
- Imaginary numbers[7]
- Infinity[8]
- Negative numbers — Nazi analogies applied to arithmetic[9]
...which make those of us trained in even basic mathematics that went to school wince.[note 2] Numerous refutations of the "proofs" and "logic" used in the blog exist around the Internet and sometimes in the blog's comments section, but the stupidity of it matches Time cube, so it is not subject to the stopped clock effect and is not even wrong.
A 2009 posting (that was locked from comments when it was written) indicates that notedscholar is almost certainly a Poe.[10]

Seemingly oblivious to the nature of mutation, notedscholar claims "PZ Myers descended into a Twitter rant/meltdown regarding NS"[11]
The gist of NS's position is that no mutant could ever attract a mate, making offspring impossible. In fact, the overwhelming majority of mutations are neutral. They do not affect an individual's fitness to occupy its niche. Furthermore, unless they are as obvious as five-eyed fish, very few "mutants" are even slightly disadvantaged in the mating game.

notedscholar: How many people in the @NASA community watch Gilmore Girls? Are they excited for the reboot?
NASA: Live broadcast is over. One person on the panel watches Gilmore Girls.[12]
notedscholar: You say that there is "water" on Mars, but how do you know it is not some other chemical like XYZ?
NASA: We can bounce signals off the surface of mars. And based on the lights that come back, we can tell the minerals.[13]
Taking the piss[edit]
NS took an unusual path in hating on RationalWiki, "Losers at RationalWiki want a piece of my pageviews".[14]
