Cover stories are articles that are randomly included on the main page as "featured articles".

[edit] Nomination

To nominate an article:

  • Place the template {{cover}} at the top of an article.
  • Go to its talk page and start a new section titled "cover story".
  • The first line of the section should say "(please do not archive this section)".
  • List the reasons you think justify putting the article on the main page.

All nominated articles are automagically added to category:Cover story nominees.

[edit] Approval

If and when they are approved, the template should be modified to {{cover|approved}}. This will put the article in category:Cover story articles, and the first 800 /1000 or so characters from articles in that category will be randomly featured on the main page of RationalWiki.

Any templates within the first 1000 (ish) words of the article should be enclosed in <noinclude>--</noinclude>.

Any images within this area should also be carefuly examined to see if they will or might disrupt the formatting of the front page, if they might do so they should also be enclosed in the <noinclude>image</noinclude>. If {{cover|approved}} is the only one, this would look like this:

<noinclude>{{cover|approved}}</noinclude>.

All approved articles are automagically added to category:Cover story articles.

[edit] Rejection

Articles rejected for inclusion should have the template cover removed from the page. The discussion on the article's talk page should be marked as "not to be archived", and left in place through any subsequent archiving for future reference.
