RationalWiki:Help/Copyright notices

Notices for use on Image pages defining copyright status.

Note: In some countries (including the United States of America and the United Kingdom), the mere creation of a work establishes copyright over it, and there is no legal requirement to register or declare copyright ownership.

If in doubt always give the precise source and the creator's name (if known). Better yet: if in doubt, don't upload.

This list is not exhaustive. If you believe that there should be others please import or create and note here (if you leave a note on my talk page I'll try to sort it).

Some of these templates require user input; please check before using.

To use one of these templates, just (or copy) its name and put it in curly brackets.

Template:foobar is used by typing {{foobar}}

To use templates with extra parameters that are required or optional, follow the instructions they provide.

[edit] The list

  • Template:Book cover image
    A low res picture of a book cover may be Fair Use "This image is of a book cover, and the copyright for it is most likely owned either by the artist who created the cover or the publisher of the book. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of book covers to illustrate an article discussing the book in question qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Other use of this image, on RationalWiki or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. If the book cover is in the public domain, then use the appropriate notice rather than this one." - See Wikipedia
