RNA stands for "ribonucleic acid". Unlike DNA, RNA contains no thymine, instead having urasil, and it is generally single-stranded. Also, the sugar part of RNA is made of ribose, instead of deoxyribose.

[edit] Types

There are three types of RNA, each described below:

[edit] Messenger RNA (mRNA)

This type of RNA carries copies of genes containing instructions for the assembling of amino acids into proteins.

[edit] Ribosomal RNA (rRNA)

This RNA forms part of the ribosomes of a cell, helping to assemble proteins.

[edit] Transport RNA (tRNA)

This RNA transports amino acids to ribosomes for protein synthesis.
