Nucleic Acids
From RationalWiki
Nucleic Acids are substances formed from large molecules that are composed of monomeric nucleotides. DNA and RNA (deoxyribonucleic acid and ribonucleic acid, respectively) are both nucleic acids. Single-stranded RNA contains information which can be translated by a ribosome to code specific proteins. DNA has two strands to provide error-correction, and is at a step removed from the transcription process. DNA is used to code strands of messenger RNA, which in turn transcribes the final protein.

Different forms of nucleic acid (known as nucleic acid analogues) can be artificially created for research or for medical purposes.
