Fag
From RationalWiki
In British English, the word fag has two meanings.
- Fag is a commonly used slang term for a cigarette. This term has a separate etymology from faggot, which is never used to refer to cigarettes.
- A fag is a younger pupil at an English public school who is appointed or seconded to act as a general dogsbody and "gofer" for a senior pupil (see Tom Brown's Schooldays). Fags who failed to follow the wishes of their superiors would be "spit roasted" in front of an open fire by the housemaster and senior prefects. In modern times and with the decline of the boarding school these practices have been very much banished to antiquity.
In American English, "fag" means a gay male. Depending on the context, this is either really ugly or really cool - compare to the usage of the n-word.
It can also mean "tired", as in "fagged out".
