Halo there[edit]

Uh, that would have to be Harbinger, at this point anyway. For the record, I'm not really sure how this site works save that it is waaa(aaa)y less chaotic than Encyclopaedia Dramatica and has a bone to pick with blind "retarducational" madness, so you're up on both counts. Harbinger 05:29, 30 September 2008 (EDT)

so, you're increasing our chaos level by posting on a random talk page? Th hug.gif SusanG  ContribsTalk 05:33, 30 September 2008 (EDT)
Hm. It would seem that despite the clearly-labeled link in my signature called "talk", people still think this is my talk page. This problem is more stubborn than I thought. Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 15:22, 30 September 2008 (EDT)

I don't know who I am anymore![edit]

Uncle Ed just referred to me as "he", then I come here and see that I'm a known female. I'm so confused! Kalliumtalk 20:22, 20 March 2009 (EDT)

I would've sworn you referred to yourself as "she" at some point. Maybe you're just a hermaphrodite? : ) Star of David.png Radioactive afikomen Please ignore all my awful pre-2014 comments. 01:24, 22 March 2009 (EDT)

My thoughts[edit]

Not many women are nerds, and thus many don't frequent wikis or don't know how in the hell a wiki works. Nuff said.--Colonel Sanders (talk) 00:42, 24 October 2011 (UTC)

Here's me replying to a six year old post: I hear ya, but tons of women are nerds, dude. Tons of people are nerds — and women are people. I mean, women make up 50% of the population — basically no matter how weird your hobby, somewhere out there, there's women who are into it too. So let's not dignify that old trope. Cultural factors[edit]

I have read a bit about the issue of female participation in the workplace and in technical communities, and especially in FLOSS(Free/Libre/Open Source Software) communities. One thing I have learnt from my reading of that literature is that cultures which involve a lot of swearing, crudity, sexually explicit jokes or images, abruptness, a tolerance for insults and hostility, etc., tend to discourage female participation, and such a culture skews the gender ratio in a male direction. Of course, some women don't mind such cultures, some women positively thrive in them, some women dislike them yet choose to participate nonetheless — but on the whole, I think it is clear that having such a culture will discourage female potential contributors to a greater degree than it would discourage male potential contributors. So, if RW would like to do something to encourage increased female participation, it should take a look at its culture and think about how the culture might be moved in a direction consonant with that goal. How didn't I see this before?[edit]

I see. So, are you 'fer it or 'gainst it? Reverend Black Percy (talk) 03:51, 28 January 2017 (UTC)

Updating[edit]

This page needs updating. Right now,at least for Uncyclopedia sysops, it is 29 sysops. Of those, minus Sophia (so really 28, she is a bot run by Cassie), and the Abuse Filter, another bot (so really 27) and PIGGY (an alt of Lyrithya, another female, so down to 26), (actually make it down to 25. Haydrahlienne is another bot run by Lyrithya), and besides the aforementioned two, is Sannse, ChiefjusticeDS (bot operated by female as stated on userpage), and B, which is a bot operated by Y, who hasn't declared, so 24. With that, we have 4 females to 20 males/not declared, or a 1:5 ratio.

However, more info and updation could be used. I don't want to do it myself, but, for example using WP data, as for Wikimedia stewards, there are 2 females, and 36 males/others. So that's 1:19.

There's more data I didn't search for. TL;DR - it needs updating.--Andrew5 (talk) 16:47, 31 August 2021 (UTC)

It's an essay on which the last edit was about nine years ago. You might like to make your own essay. Scream!! (talk) 17:02, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
Probably not on this subject but I probably will.Andrew5 (talk) 17:45, 31 August 2021 (UTC)
